Workshop - Cracking responsive navigation

  • April 1, 2014 · 6:30 PM
  • The Elephant public house,

6.30pm for a 7pm start.

An interactive  UX workshop led by Kathryn Hegarty (UX Designer at True Digital) and Adam Beizsley-Pycroft (UX Director at Natural Interaction)

.

Bring Pens!

Responsive design has disrupted established user interface patterns in recent years. Whilst some new conventions such as the "hamburger" menu have emerged, these often involve making trade offs around how much a user can access from a certain page and lack the flexibility to deal with sites with complex information architecture such as retailers.

Working in groups, we'll explore different approaches through paper prototyping then test them by swapping a few nominated people around (as guinea pigs). Each group will then share their findings and perhaps we'll be one step closer to solving the problem.

Thanks Adam & Kathryn for the great workshop & whistle-stop history of navigation on web & mobile. Hope to see you all again next month, or sooner if any of you are going to SWMobile tonight - there's 5 spots free right now: http://www.meetup.com/swmobile/events/162001822/

Great meetup again. Enjoyed the workshop - it always amazes me when given the same problem the variety of (great) solutions people will come up with. Always learning... :)

This is really useful as at the moment I am at a stalling point with breadcrumbs. Sadly I will not be able to get to Bristol in time.

How about something like this where the less important ones collapse? http://cm0s.github.io...

Depending on how deep your IA is users may only need to know the category and then the name of the current page to understand where they are.

How Waiting Lists work: http://help.meetup.com/customer/portal/articles/868972 Short version:
You'll get an email if a place opens up for you and Meetup will move you to the 'Going' list. If you can't now make the Meetup you have to set your RSVP to No in order to free up the spot for someone else on the waiting list.

If ever you can't make a Meetup, change your RSVP to 'No' otherwise a group admin has to manually set your RSVP on your behalf. Adding only a comment to the Meetup won't free up your place for someone else.

    Looking forward to tomorrow!

I was looking forward to this but my boy has gone down with a really nasty dose of chicken pox. Discovered it yesterday on Mothers Day...joy. I definitely can't make this now... Next time...!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
