Hike Point Defiance Trail

Let's hike Point Defiance Trail and gold pan in Bridgeport!

Point Defiance Loop begins at the north end of the covered bridge and continues downstream 1 mile where the river flows into Lake Englebright at Point Defiance. The trail continues uphill with peaceful lake views, then descends through oak woodland back to the bridge, for a total of 2.8  miles.

Gold Panning Demonstrations
Summer (Memorial Day - Labor Day)
            Every Summer Sat, Sun & holiday, 11am - 2pm at Bridgeport
Free; donations welcomed

Docents will demonstrate how to pan for gold in our troughs which are very likely to yield a bit of gold for most everyone. Practice in the troughs, then try your hand in the river. Remember, only pans and hands allowed in the park.


Bridgeport History Station
Summer (Memorial Day - Labor Day)
                  Every Saturday and Sunday, 11am - 2pm (free; donations welcomed).
          You will find a history station staffed by friendly docents who will explain the history of the bridge, barn, wagons, and the pioneers who lived here.

Directions to Bridgeport
on Pleasant Valley Rd, 8 miles north of Hwy 20 in Penn Valley

Park hours at Bridgeport are sunrise to sunset every day.
        The Visitor Center is open 11-4 daily from Memorial Day to Labor Day,
        and 11-3 Thurs - Sun the rest of the year.

from Sacramento / San Francisco
        Take I-80 East toward Reno. In Auburn, take Hwy 49 North (left) for 22 miles. In Grass Valley take Hwy 20 West (left) for 8 miles.Turn right (North) on Pleasant Valley Rd for 8 miles. There are 2 parking lots - 1 immediately before the bridge on the left, and 1 immediately after the bridge on the right.

from Yuba City / Marysville
        From the intersection of Hwy 70 and Hwy 20, take Hwy 20 East for 18 miles. Turn left (North) on Pleasant Valley Rd for 8 miles. There are 2 parking lots - 1 immediately before the bridge on the left, and 1 immediately after the bridge on the right.
