American River Parkway - Ancil Hoffman Park
We will be hiking a 3 mile hike that outlines Ancil Hoffman Park. The park is dotted with ancient oaks and bordered on two sides by the American River, is home to the renowned Effie Yeaw Nature Center. On the trail, we will see herds of deers, turkeys, many species of birds and frogs. Dogs are allowed on this trail, but not the others in the nature area by the Effie Yeaw Nature Center.
The entrance fee is $5 at the kiosk.
Pack a lunch! After the hike we can all have lunch in the picnic area. There are many large playing fields for the kids to run and play, so bring a ball or a frisbee.
The Effie Yeaw Nature center is also a great place for the kids.
How to Get There:
From Auburn •Take I-80 west •Take Madison Avenue, east exit (left at end of ramp) •Turn right on Manzanita Avenue Mazanita Ave. turns into Fair Oaks Blvd. Stay on Fair Oaks •Turn left on Palm Drive •Turn right on California Ave •Turn left on Tarshes Drive (entrance to Ancil Hoffman Park) •Go past kiosk, continue on Tarshes Drive to stop sign •Turn left at stop sign (San Lorenzo Way) and continue to Nature Center
From Davis or Downtown Sacramento •Take I-80 east towards Sacramento •Take Highway 50 east •Take Watt Avenue North Exit •Turn right on Fair Oaks Blvd. •Turn right on Van Alstine Ave. •Turn left on California Ave. •Turn right on Tarshes Drive (entrance to Ancil Hoffman Park) •Go past kiosk, continue on Tarshes Drive to stop sign •Turn left at stop sign (San Lorenzo Way) and continue to Nature Center See everybody in the parking lot at 11:00 a.m.
