SLEDDING & SNOWSHOEING ADVENTURE - ALL LEVELS - TAHOE VISTA

+++ Please note, Carla won't be there as we've been up all night with a sick child++++

So sorry, but please go and have fun.  It's a great place.  We'll catch you next time.

My sincere apologies, but there's not much I can do about this one!!!!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Anyone want to join us for some sledding and snowshoeing, snow levels permitting?

North Tahoe Regional Park is our most favorite place to go, and the best deal in town.

There's something for everyone.

2 groomed sledding hills (one for little kids and one for the bigger kids and adults).

Your $5 entrance fee allows you all day access to the sledding hills (including the plastic saucer sleds), and use of the surrounding snowshoe/ski trails.  Your are also allowed to bring your own sleds or inner tubes too.

The cost is $3 to park each vehicle.

It's not fancy, but it's family friendly, with a heated bathroom and a small warming hut that sells hot chocolate and coffee.

The adjoining trails are groomed regularly and provide a small network of about 3-4 miles of trails.  While the kids have fun sledding, the adults can snowshoe or ski at the same location.  Of course, you can do both too.  Everyone gets a good workout climbing up and down the hills to sled.

Please note:  There is no rental of snowshoes or skis here, you must bring your own or have rented them previously at places such as REI.....

What to bring:  Lunch, snacks, warm, layered waterproof clothing and boots.  Sunscreen, water, hats, gloves, spare change of clothes for the little ones, and a good sense of humor.

We usually eat our lunch in the car or at the park upon arrival.

I will check with the park the weekend of the trip to ensure that the trails are open - because of it's location, the park doesn't always have as much snow as other areas.  But thus far this year, we've had good luck.

Here's the link to the park - there's also a downloadable map for directions if needed:

Hope to see you there!

We got there late (had to stop in Truckee to replace forgotten mittens) and since this was our first meetup w/ this group we didn't know who was part of it, so we didn't get to meet anyone but did have fun, the sled hills were perfect and we tried out our snowshoes finally. Hope organizers' child is better by now, and hope to meet people next time.

    Hi everyone,
Just called the park's hotline and as of Monday 2/3/13 the trails and sledding hills were groomed. So, it looks like all is in order for our visit on Sunday. Weather should be dry and sunny, but cold, so plan your clothing accordingly. And, we'll see you there!

Weird, we just happen to be staying in Tahoe Vista this weekend and planned to go to the North Tahoe Regional Park, even though this event is full can we at least stop by and say hi? I'm new to Meetup and am not sure how this works. Thank you.

    • Carla

Sure. That would be fun, although I'm not sure you'd find us specifically among all the people there. I do need to make sure however that the park is open for sledding, as we've been caught by surprise in the past.
