Those wanting to connect for carpools arrive 6:30.  We will try to depart by 6:52 a.m., and anticipate arriving at Echo at 8:30, so gas up prior.  Remember to have all hatches open for inspection for bare bones inspection on your clean boat upon arrival at Echo!!!

©This photo is of Upper Echo Lake through narrow creek.

Come enjoy this lake (normally not too windy this time of year, view snow line mountains (and probably along water at upper Echo Lake.    I will take pictures for any takers!

Echo is a very special place, nestled in at over 7,000 foot elevation, situated at the top of Echo Summit on Highway 50.

Parking is very limited..Come while snow lines the upper lake south side ...which makes it absolutely pristine to view Ospreys and weave through the islands at Upper Echo.

INSPECTION / FEE: The family owned Chalet will inspect your boats for muscles, and they take it seriously as I do.  Bring your boat clean, dry, and open all hatches for inspection. Attitude counts for us in a volume discount for not tying up their parking lot (CARPOOLING HINT HINT!!!!).  It may simply be $5 per boat, or even more including launch.

Bring a sack lunch for picnic.  It will be one of the most pristine places you've visited in a kayak.

Level III Event:  Afternoon winds we take seriously at Echo, and there is a chance we will have to divert same morning, so you must check in with me, if you are driving directly to event, as the wind gods up here in this primitive area lack mercy driving white caps at times in direction of boat launch area.

Hi I really wanted to go and it didn't work out this time so I look forward to Yakking in the future! Are kids welcome?

    June 15, 2013

    • Sven L

Siobhan, While conditions were smooth (not common for this lake), it requires the skills and equipment to get off the lake safely when it's rough. I welcome you to join us on easier places like Lake Natoma. Echo is not a place to learn to kayak. Try out some equipment at Lake Natoma at Willow Creek or Negro Bar. Rentals are there (at least on weekends). Bringing your kids to local events, well mannered, basic skills, and endurance to keep up on a moderate pace, would be welcome at some events. YOU should paddle with us to check out pace and distance, and learn varieties of boat and paddle choices.

Sack Lunch at Upper Echo lake---bring dry bag, or share. Caravan & brief discussion at upper parking lot after paddle for those going on to Silver.

    June 12, 2013

  • Sven L

FYI: Many of you are also going to Silver Lake the next day. Those that wish to camp with me or others can join in the caravan to the Hope Valley area, and camp Saturday after Echo. This is a secluded area with many options, luck of the draw for camping--no rsvps--no hosts. Hope to keep connected with you all. Many of those are bringing radios, VHF 69 or FRS 5. Bring them if you have them or caravan knowing who has radios, as cell phones either don't work / not practical for many to hear.

I plan to spend the night Friday with in-laws in Folsom area and meet everyone 8:30 am Sat at Echo Lake. I may stop around 6:30 am in Hangtown (Butter cup diner) for breakfast. I'll probably follow group after Echo lake paddle, to Silver lake area and check out camping there with everyone. I'll bring firewood and some beer. (Hopefully fires okay?) I have radio (69).
