Great Memories

Always changing water condition

Inclement weather cancels.  Will update evening prior to event.  Morning drizzle with good outlook will not cancel.  Weather Underground shows sunny.

Now: RSVP Yes only.  "No's clutter my answer box.  Everyone answers questions. You will be given an email the day before the event on any special shuttle driver selection and instructions. If you are not a shuttle driver, bring $3 to event to pay for gas for High occupancy shuttle drivers.

0830:  Drop your Kayaks and gear at Sailor Bar.  Volunteer TBA needed to stay at Sailor Bar with gear.

09:15: Drop your cars off at Harrington.

09:15: Two volunteers TBA to drive to Sailor bar with everyone.

10:00 Arrive Sailor Bar Bathrooms

10:10 Three Minute Briefing on water in lagoon, then were off!

12:00  LUNCH:   Break & Eddie Practice San Juan Rapids

2:40   Approx. Take-out Harrington Access.  A volunteer needed to shuttle back to Sailor Bar.

SHUTTLE Donation:  This helps assure drivers. Exceptions:  Shuttle Drivers.

Requirements: You have a PFD, and prior kayak experience in river waters or permission from me in advance.  Whistle Required, snacks only on the water.

LIMITS ON RSVP'S: MEMBERS WILL HAVE PRIORITY.  GUESTS AND NON-PAID MEMBERS ARE SECONDARY.  Due to logistics (shuttling), no shows are an absolute no-no.  I will open RSVP's commensurate with the usual helpful volunteerism in the SacYakker tradition....IE.  Need drivers with phone numbers!!!!  Need high occupancy vehicles to participate.  YOU MUST STATE YOUR VEHICLE TYPE AND GEAR CARRYING ABILITY.  I will call those most suited to drive / shuttle with instructions.

Sailor Bar ramp,  Changes to your RSVP must be made 2 hours prior to paddle start.  I will not answer my phone after 8:30 on day of event.  So do not call me unless you have question on shuttle on day of event.

Participation: All that RSVP are gathering for the sole purpose of safety in numbers or here for the shuttle ride only.  No member has any responsibility to any participant, express or implied.  Kayaking is a dangerous sport, and water hazards occur.  All participants are doing so at their own risk, and no one in this group implies skills or responsibility for looking after anyone.

There are rapids up to Class II+.  Kayak skirt recommended for sit inside kayaks.   Floatation means required for you and your boat.

DIRECTIONS TO SAILOR BAR: Hwy 50 to Hazel, north over river, left on Winding Way, Left on Illinois to boat ramp.

DIRECTIONS TO Harrington: Arden way East from Fair Oaks Blvd.  First stop sign turn right.  Drive all the way to park, parking close to water (near bathrooms if open)

©Copywrite: While I should not have to say this...common sense and courtesy should prevail.... Please be respectful of not duplicating content, itinerary, format, and my personal favorites to other groups, as much time is expended in planning a unique experience, the SacYakker way!  Conversely, my organizers shall honor other groups content.

Selection of Drivers: Largely, I pick drivers to shuttle that minimizes number of miles driven, and ease of transport of people.  Sometimes we just need seating, and sometimes its shear volume of boat space.  A mix of cars to stay at Take-out and those that return with people and gear to put-in does just that.

I'd like to do this paddle, but I am currently without a boat. Does anyone have one to lend for a day?

Brian, sorry I didn't notice this till now. Email me with your phone number WHEN you wish to attend an event. $20 brings you a boat, paddle and PFD, when available on confirmed attendance.

Sunny and clear, very little wind. A very nice day with high water flows, was a snap going through arden rapids. I think many dropped because of the earlier rain...big mistake. Almost as if the weather sliced out sunshine just for us.

I'm still in - unless it's pouring rain at 7:30 am when I have to load my kayak on my car. In that case, I'll call you Sven to let you whether or not I'll be joining you.

Weather.com forecasts rain all night Saturday until about 6:am, then sun expected at 9:00. We will all meet as planned at Harrington. I will ask Todd Ross to be our equipment spotter when you drop off at Sailor bar your gear at 0830. Should be nice day, though we may have to wait for weather to pass.

I have Prijon Kodak, 17' plastic kayak with rudder. Okay for this paddle or too long? Do you usualling wear Farmer Johns on this kind of paddle?

    December 30, 2012

    • Sven L

Don, many kayak this river with up to 20' boats. I am comfortable in 11,000 CFS water on 14' plastic boats. I do recommend skirt for going through Arden Rapids if you have one. Most do fine without. Skins or farmer johns are a great idea. Of course, no cotton.
