Please read added notes at the end of this meet up announcement. Also the time has changed!!!
Sacramento FANS are invited to help bag and distribute food in cooperation with the Sacramento Food Bank on November 7th at 7:45 AM. This event will last until about 11:30 or 12:00. The distribution point will be the parking lot of Peace Lutheran Church.
We encourage our members to be active in community service and look at this as an opportunity to bond as a group and to provide much needed help in our community. As such, I would like to remind volunteers that this is not a political or non-theist agenda. We will be working side by side with folks of religious persuasion (mostly Christian I would assume), and this is not the place to challenge those beliefs verbally or with attire that might offend or put the Food Bank at risk. They rely on their religious constituents for much of their support and we do not want to offend. We are after all, Freethinkers.
So, with that in mind, please consider the people who are helped by our efforts and show up with a smile on your face. It's got to feel good!
For more information about the Sacramento Food Bank go to www.sacramentofoodbank.org
For those of you who were involved in our previous attempt to volunteer at the food bank, be assured that they have apologized for the previous behaviour and welcome our group.
The address is 924 San Juan Rd Sacramento, CA 95834 (916) 927-5934.

Please let your members know that we have a variety of options for volunteering at these distributions, it is not all just manual labor. We provide children’s activities like coloring areas and agility games with cones and soccer balls. We also set up an area where children and adults can participate in educational games for prizes (gift certificate to Save Mart, back to school kits, family tooth brush kits, etc.). Volunteers are always needed to help facilitate these activities. If any members of your group are fluent in Spanish or Russian, we would love to have them assist us with client registration to help all of our clients feel more welcome. Of course, we are always in need of willing hands to put up tents, tables and prepare the distribution itself! (It sounds like a lot of work, but you’ll be amazed by how quickly it comes together.)
