Secular Family Day: Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary

The Folsom Zoo is great for all ages.  It is essentially an animal sanctuary that allows visitors because the animals in this zoo are not bred, sold, or traded. Once they are at the zoo/sanctuary they are cared for as long as they live.

Animals at the zoo include bears, tigers, cougars, bobcats, birds, foxes, wolves, wolf hybrids, coyote, feral pigs, horses, sheep, deer, macaques, squirrel monkeys, raccoons, skunks, and squirrels.

There is info posted about how many of the animals came to live there.  Learn more about the Zoo Sanctuary.

A Scavenger Hunt for Older Kids

Our host, Dina, will be assigning the older kids a scavenger hunt to work on together as an ice breaker.  They will have to gather a few facts about certain animals, and search for a few items.

Ticket Prices

Tickets for children under 2 are free, ages 2-12 are $5, and 12+ are $6. We'll try to get group rates.

Meeting Up

We'll meet at the main gate at 11, and head out to explore the park at 11:15 AM.

Let's discuss lunch options in the space below.

Thanks for hosting, Dina; you did good! Always wanted to go, but hadn't . I'm now a member of the Sanctuary as of December 2013. Winter is such a iffy time and Spring such a beautiful time I intend to go back. . . .

It's nice there, isn't it? If you really want to learn the animals' stories the Friends of the Folsom Zoo website has interesting notes about some of the animals by their caretakers from their first months there. Wish we could have talked more, but there was a three year old primate attached to me who wouldn't let go.

Hard, to socialize and also keep tab on the kids, but it was nice talking to you. Thanks for pointing out the deer, they are my favorite animal.

Because I'm seeing interest in some of our Stockton/Modesto friends, I've cross-posted this event here:

If you haven't already, plz let me know the ages of any kids going along. Will make the scavenger hunt easier to plan for. Hee hee, and I'm on a role, even have one prepared for the adults attending without kids (But only if you want to, of course) :-)
