Subject: [atheists-637] Upcoming Atheist
and Freethinker Events
There are a host of events and opportunities to
engage with one another before our next monthly meeting on December 16th at
Coffee Garden in Curtis Park.
The first is a free film screening for
TONIGHT at 6PM. American River College welcomes the producer and director of
For the Bible Tells Me So, a look at tension within the Christian
community over the inclusion of gays in families, denominations and larger
society. This should be an especially engaging film given the recent (and
ongoing) firestorm over gay marriage in California. Here is the link
to the event on our group's MeetUp page. Please RSVP if you can attend, and I
apologize for the short notice.
Here is a brief rundown of events over
the next few weeks:
11/23 -- Ex-Mormon Roundtable @ Streets of London
11/30 -- Book Discussion Circle: The God Delusion (Part 2) @
12/12 -- Co?Exist Comedy @ Crest Theater
each event are on our MeetUp page. Please be sure to RSVP for each event so
you can add to each event's tally. The more the merrier, and commitment is
Also, the group now has a Facebook page.
Facebook is an invaluable social networking tool to find communities of common
interest, reconnect with old friends, and keep friends and family posted on
what you're up to. Facebook enables us to reach out to others we already know
about those issues, events and interests on our radar at any given moment. A
big shout out to Ted Cox for making it happen!
Ted also authored a
great Sacramento News and Review profile on
Sacramento State professor Matt McCormick, who teaches a seminar on atheism
and advises the Atheist Student Organization.
Please take the time to
visit our MeetUp page, and to contribute your thoughts on how we can better
engage one another and the larger community via our message board. You can
suggest books and articles to read, or events that would be of interest or
that you're currently engaged with in your regular life. Needless to say,
freethinkers have a broad range of interests. I like to post news articles on
the message board, though not as regularly as I'd like. Feel free to do the
same! The MeetUp page also allows you to contact Steve, our lead organizer, or
any one of us (at least those of us who accept email through MeetUp).
It is a sincere pleasure to have each of you among our ranks!
