Suddenly, from behind the rim of the moon in long slow-motion movements of immense majesty there emerges a sparkling blue and white jewel, a light, delicate sky blue sphere laced with slowly swirling veils of white rising gradually like a small pearl in a thick sea of black mystery. It takes more than a moment to fully realize this is the Earth — home.

Edgar Mitchell, Apollo astronaut

seeing the earth while walking on the moon

The truth that all humanity is connected has deep resonance from scientific perspectives (physics and ecological wisdom) as well from the principles of very wide range of spiritual traditions.

But something else is necessary to feel that wholeness directly within yourself. A direct connection happens when individually we find the courage to cross a boundary we assume is solid, but in fact, with a little testing, with reports heard from others, we learn it is not; we choose to venture into what is unknown to us.

Through giving voice to your own words this day will give you time to view life and the living earth in sacred way. When he stood on the moon Edgar Mitchell (founder of IONS) was changed forever by witnessing the great beauty and mystery of the earth. This stopping to see could happen each day rather than for just a few people in a generation.

John and Bahareh will offer you poems and support that evoke connection and meaning, beauty and courage. It is not too much for us to imagine that you too will be changed! No previous experience is necessary. Please come with your “beginner’s mind.”
