Sky Trail Loop in Point Reyes National Seashore
9.6 mile loop
Claims intermediate, but it will be strenuous for some
1800 feet elevation gain
It basically climbs down to the ocean from Sky Camp, over to Coast Camp, and then back up again.
We'll meet at the Bear Valley Visitor Center to use the restrooms and fill the cars, for there is limited parking at the trail head. Then drive to the Limantour Road staging area (a small dirt parking lot) to begin our hike.
We'll climb 1.3 miles to Sky Camp where there is another bathroom, and continue on the Sky Trail along Iverness Ridge until we meet the Woodward Trail where we'll turn right. It descends steeply to the coast.
At the junction of the Coast Trail, turn right again and continue to Coast Camp where there is another bathroom and beach access. This is where we'll stop for lunch and enjoy the beach for about 1.5 hours. (If you're in a big hurry this may not be the hike for you.)
Continue the Coast Trail a short distance to the Laguna Trail, go about one mile to the Fire Trail and turn right. This is a long 2.3 mile stretch UP UP UP back to the top of Sky Trail.
When you hit Sky Trail turn left back toward the cars.
No dogs allowed per park rules.

Hi JD,
I would estimate our arrival at the Ber Valley Visitor Center to be about 10-10:15am.
Steve, those are great pictures. Thanks for doing so much for us.

I've power-hiked this route solo, with the addition of the steep hike up to Sky Camp from the Visitor Center, and back. It's strenuous, especially back up the Fire Trail, and may deserve more of an advanced-intermediate rating. This will be my opportunity to see if I can learn to s-l-o-w d-o-w-n within a large group.
