Alan [masked]
Ready to hike the #1 icon in San Francisco? After carpool arrangements (please park your vehicle at REI's right side by the trash bins) we'll depart the parking lot at 7:15 sharp. To those meeting us in San Francisco, our trailhead there is the Warming Hut Coffee Shop were coffee is served and the restrooms are easy access. We should all be there around 9:30 and the hike will start soon thereafter. The total length of the Golden Gate Bridge with approaches is 8981 ft. (No jumpers, please). Our pace will be moderately easy to allow enjoyment of the outstanding scenery. We'll then continue on about a mile into the small picturesque town of Sausalito to see fine, architectured homes, and walk thru restaurants and shops. We'll board the ferry (cost about $8.00 per person) to the Ferry Bldg. where we'll grab lunch at any restaurant of your choice, outside at the Farmer's Market, or bring your own.
For the 2nd part of our journey, we'll pass thru Pier 39, Fisherman's Wharf, Fort Mason, Nautical Museum, finally the Marina District, then back to our cars.
The conditions at the Bridge tend to be breezy and cold. Wear appropriate layers and comfortable shoes. Bring your camera, binoculars, sunblock, cash for the ferry and $3.00 per hour to your driver. Oh, and let's not forget that a positive attitude is a hiking essential.
Drivers take the I-80 W, to the 37-W, then 101- S into the Bridge and make your way to the coffee shop.
Mapquest Directions: From 101 exit toward Marshall St. and turn right. Turn left at Mason St. and a slight right at Crissy Field Ave., slight left at Lincoln Blvd. and continue on at Long Ave. which turns slightly left and becomes Marine Dr. Free parking is available behind the buildings.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
The Golden Gate Bridge is long and tall. If you have height issues, you may reconsider. The total hike is a little over 10 miles on mostly flat terrain with one semi- steep hill. Please be on pace with the group, not only due to the ferry schedules but also for your own safety and in consideration with your car group. To those thinking of bringing their small children, walking this long could be difficult or somewhat be boring to them and ultimately be hard on you.
RAIN CANCELS!
Alan: Jeanine and I will meet group at "trailhead." What's your ETA to Crissy Field?
Would anyone like to meet at the Davis Park and Ride?
Anyone going from the Marysville?Yuba City area that I could ride with?
Hey Alan...super excited about this one! I will be with a friend of mine and we will be meeting you at the trailhead. Expect a call from me, as you know I'm not the most organized! But I will not be late, I promise!!!
Hi Alan, I and a few others will be meeting you at the coffee shop. I have your number just in case. Looking forward to it.
Here is an easy shortcut to trailhead: Take far right lane through GG Bridge toll plaza. Just after the bus stop, take the 25th Ave. exit., which puts you on Merchant Rd. At the stop sign, turn left on Lincoln. Turn Left on Long Ave. Sharp right on Hamilton St. Parking is just ahead on either side of road.
Cindy: Thanks. I'll call you later today. There will be one other person as well. Dave
