Hike around Sugar Pine Lake (Beg 4 Miles)

Title: Hike around Sugar Pine Lake

Type: Hike around the lake

Cool Features: A beautiful small lake in pines and oaks, fresh clean cool air, and of course YOU!

Description:  We will start from the dam and hike counter clockwise around the lake. The trail brings you along the lake shore. We will cross 2 bridges over inlet streams along the way. When we arrive at the back of the lake a picnic area with tables will be a stop for lunch. There are also pit style restrooms there that may be open. After lunch we will finish up the hike down the north shore. This portion of the trail will have most of the elevation gain but nothing more than about 50 feet or so. Back to the dam and cars and finish of the hike.

Elevation Gain/Loss: Minimal, around 75 feet in a couple areas.

Altitude at Trailhead: 3600 feet

Terrain: Mostly flat with some small up and downs on even mostly dirt with a few rocky, gravel areas.

Distance: 4 Miles

Difficulty Rating: Beginner "Rating Chart"

Fitness Level:

Expected Duration: about 2.5 hours for the hike and lunch

Special Skills Necessary: None

Where to meet you: (in your RSVP, please post at which departure site we will find you):

Depart: 10:00 am at Sunsplash Park and Ride
Departure Trailhead: 11:00 am at the trailhead (see directions below)

Type of travel: Carpool, shuttle, meet at trailhead

Things to bring: Willingness to hike together as a group no matter what the speed of the slowest hiker. Willingness to stay between the sweeper and the leader.

Plus: 2 liters of Water, Sunscreen, Bug Repellent, Appropriate footwear for safe travel on the surfaces of the hike.

Membership Required: All adult participants must be Sacramento Trail Mix members. Minors are welcome when accompanied by their parent or guardian club member.

1)From the park and ride get onto 80 east.

2) Take the Auburn Ravine Rd/ Foresthill Road off ramp.

3) Go right at the end of the offramp.Then straight ahead on Foresthill Road for 25 miles through and past the town of Foresth  ill.

 4) At Sugar Pine Lake Road turn left.
 5) Drive 8 miles down Sugar Pine Lake Road to the dam and park on the far side.

Restrooms available: Portable toilet available at trailhead
