Mist Trail to Nevada Falls and John Muir Trail Loop - Yosemite National Park

Weather Permitting- but bring a rain jacket because the Mist trail is a soaker.
8-miles, the first 4 miles are very strenuous

We're doing this in one day, but if you'd like to go up the night before, here's a place that's been recommended.

Tentative schedule:
5:00am meet at REI for carpool arrangements
5:15am leave REI we can't wait for latecomers
7:30am Carrow's Restaurant at Hwy 99 and Hwy 140 east in Merced
10:15am arrive Yosemite's Curry Village parking area and catch the shuttle bus to Happy Isles (stop #16)
10:30am begin hike (aproximately 5 hours of hiking plus 1/2 hour for lunch)
4:15pm leave park
6:15pm stop for dinner (Fresh Choice in Modesto, or wherever your car group chooses)
9:00pm arrive REI

Mist and John Muir Loop to Nevada Falls

Start at Happy Isles and follow the signed trail to the footbridge over the Merced River.
We'll take the loop clockwise starting with the Mist Trail up past Vernal Falls continuing up to Nevada Falls. There we'll enjoy the view for awhile, eat and catch our breath.
For the return trip we'll cross the footbridge over Nevada Falls and follow the John Muir Trail down to loop back around to the bottom of Vernal Falls. Bring all your gear, including water- proof poncho or jacket (for Mist Trail) and plenty of food and water.
No dogs allowed on trail.

Cost: $20 per vehicle to enter park (bring your National Park Pass if you have one)

Distance: 176 mi
Time: 4 hours each way
Take Highway 99 south to
Highway 140 east (Merced) into Yosemite National Park.

    That was such a beautiful route. I had never been back in there, didn't know it even existed. It blew my mind. The fellow hikers were awesome. The weather was perfect, not too hot, not too much snow left on the ground.

    Great day, awsome hike. Falls were awsome. Always great people on the hikes. Everyone did the wall. After you all left, at about 6:30 that night I have a few shots of a bear that wondered into the meadowand was eating some grass it looked like. I will post them.

    If I could have rated this hike super duper freakin awesome, I would have! Gary and Shannon, WOW!! I do not have words for how stinkin cool this hike was! It was such an emotional experience for me.
    So happy I had my first timer (Yosemite) with all of you that went! Great group!!!! Gary/Shannon, think about that rating..maybe add it on for the next time.. Great just doesn't serve the purpose sometimes!
