Alice's Restaurant

Usually a popular club ride to probably the best known motorcyclist hangout in Northern California.  We will start early to preserve daylight.  Route down will be through the delta and East Bay hills, then across the San Mateo Bridge to Skyline Drive and south to Alice's.  At the end of December there probably won't actually be too many squids around.  We will try to get the back room they have at Alice's.  Return will be down to the coast with a jog along Highway 1, and probably return via freeway, although, if there is interest, I may go back up the delta instead to keep away from that super slab for at least part of the way.

The actual ride down Skyline Blvd to Alice's is fairly short, but we'll try to make the rest of the journey to get there interesting, with only fairly short stretches of freeway traffic.  Come and join us for the last 2013 ride for the club.

This was an enjoyable ride through some amazing roads, capped off by great food and conversation. Rick set a brisk pace, which I personally enjoyed, and I look forward to a ride with him as Road Captain in the future. Thanks for welcoming 4 of our Spyder Ryders of America into your staggered ranks today!!!

I love to ride with SRC...Rick developed a well thought out route with plenty of the roads we all love to ride. Through the delta, into the city, up onto hidden twisty eucalyptus lined roads leading to breath taking vistas of the ocean, then onto Skyline Blvd for some sweet sweeping curves through the redwoods to Alice's Restaurant. But wait....that's not all!! Leaving Alice's we were back onto more of those sweeping curves leading us down to the coastline via Hwy 101, where we rode ocean-side before diving into San Francisco and crossing the Bay Bridge. From there we were given the choice of taking freeway home or not. I don't mean to be long winded here but I also need to mention that Sandy is one of the best "Sweeps" I've ever ridden with! Without the use of a CB he anticipated lane changes and blocked traffic to allow the group to transition with ease. He kept his thumb on the pulse of the group and was on the spot when there was trouble and did it all with a good attitude.

First let me mention that Alice's is everything a good restaurant strives to be. Built in a beautiful location on the map, clean, well appointed and the staff is gracious under pressure. When we arrived I was dismayed to see how full the restaurant was. I was thinking that it would take "forever" to get our food and get back on the road. I was amazed at how quickly our food arrived after ordering AND I believe everybody got their plates at the same time. I had the BBQ Brisket Sandwich with Garlic Fries...the food was good and there were plenty of fries to share in a small order. I have no doubt that Alice's could handle any size group with ease.

We will have several medium length sections in the morning, and probably freeway back from SF. If it is early enough, we can try some back roads home, but will avoid being where we will hit back roads after dark.

There are no stupid questions, correct? In this reference, what is a "squid" and why would they not be out at the end of December?

    December 23, 2013

    • Rick

And most squids are fair weather riders, comes from not wearing any protection, or other gear, which is why you will see less of them in December.
