Day Hike (1C). Blue Ridge Trail, Cache Creek Natural Area

OUTING DATE CHANGED TO SATURDAY, 14 APRIL

On this very strenuous 6 total mile hike in the scenic Cache Creek Natural Area we’ll make our way along a very steep but scenic trail to the summit of a 2,631’ knoll on Blue Ridge from where we’ll have a spectacular view of the Sacramento Valley, Coast Range and Sierra. 2,500' elevation gain. You must be in excellent shape. The perfect hike for those looking for a great workout and buns of steel!

Bring lunch, water, hiking boots or sturdy walking shoes, hiking poles (recommended), jacket and money for $6 per car parking fee and optional carpooling and dinner. Rain cancels. No dogs.

Meet at 9 a.m. at the 11th & P Streets parking lot, downtown Sacramento. We'll be back in Sacramento before 5pm if you don't join us for dinner on the way home; you'll be back before 7pm if you do join us for dinner. Dinner is at Rico's Pizza in Woodland.

Leader: Jeff Utberg, [masked] or 916.548.7228.

Where is G.B.? What does it stand for?

I just signed up and hope it's not too late. Not sure if anyone wants to commute to downtown Sac from G.B.? Then can I commute with someone once in Sac?

There's only a very slight possibility that the bridge across Cache Creek that leads to the trailhead will be inaccessible. This bridge is under water when the river is flowing at 1,000 cubic feet per second; the realtime data I viewed this morning says the flow is well below that level, so we should be OK. I have a plan B, however, in case the bridge is flooded; we'll head down the road another 22 miles to hike the equally scenic Redbud Trail and I'll bring directions on how to get there.

How do you think the recent heavy rains have affected the trail? Are there any stream crossings?

    Hi everyone,
As stated in a previous email, this is a VERY strenuous hike, as we'll be hiking along a very steep trail. Please do not attend unless you're in excellent shape. I expect all attendees to be able to keep up with the group. Please remove yourself from this outing if you won't be attending.
    Thank you.

I can be a driver or a passenger in a carpool. I forgot the fee for carpooling per hour. How many hours drive is it?

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
