What does Sustainable Living mean to you?

Taking responsibility for our lives and embracing voluntarily simplicity. Shop local/organic and volunteer to ban GMO. Reduce carbon footprint in our personal consumption. Get rid of clutter in your house and don't buy stuff until you think about do you really NEED it in your life. Civic engagement, volunteering, community gardens, walk-able neighborhoods. Urban backyard chicken-keeping, learning about food preservation, canning, dehydrating, fermenting foods.

Why did you join this group?

To have fellowship with kindred spirits. Put some extra pizazz in my social life, make new friends. Learn new skils and community building.

What sustainability topics are most dear to your heart?

Creating different food shed delivery system other than UNFI, Inc., Whole Paycheck, Sprouts Market, Trader Joes and the organic section of supermarkets. Do not trust Safeway's "O" alleged organic brand farther than I can toss it. March, 2014 Trader Joe's got nailed class action lawsuit fraudulently label private label products "100% Natural" petrochemical biocide synthetic junk Will get $40.00 in payment member of class action lawsuit but curdles my girdle www.Cornucopia.org "Who Owns Organic" 90% of organic natural food manufacturing owned by transnational corporate cartel agribusiness NOP organic certification created by USDA 1990 to enable Pillsbury General Mills CocaCola Pepsi Dean Foods to buy indie organic food manufacturing companies UNFI & Whole Paycheck have hegemonic control of organic food industry. More buying clubs and more farmers markets!

What one thing should we do that will inspire you to attend a future event?

The venue needs to be close to RT lite rail - or a bus line that does not stop running after 6pm. I live Midtown/Downtown area and there are so many nifty groups on Meetups I cannot participate in because the event is held at a site that has no public transit. I got rid of my car 13 years ago and use RT to get around town. Used to be a bike owner but quit 'cos I had 6 bikes stolen....so please pick meeting sites which are easy to get to on public transit and accessible to The Grid neighborhood.
