On May 25 th there is a march and demonstration at the California capital against GMO foods and Monsanto in particular. This is part of a worldwide action designed to bring attention to the issue. This is partly in response to legislation recently passed and signed into law in Washington DC dubbed "The Monsanto Protection Act". Essentially this law grants companies that produce GMO foods immunity from lawsuits or legal action if these foods cause harm to consumers. If these foods are safe as these companies and the government claim then why are they setting up this shield of protection. Studies conducted in Europe show why: lab tests on rats has shown major effects from the consumption of these products including changes in the liver, kidneys, and immune systems.
Many who belong to this group may say "Well I only eat organic food". That is a good choice if you can afford it, but there are many in the country who cannot. I also believe that eventually companies like Monsanto will work to undermine the organic standards through the concept of "Substantial Equivalence".
There is also the practice by Monsanto of preventing farmers from saving seeds which farmers have done for thousands of years. This is not just from farmers who have chosen to use these products in the first place. This genetic material is creeping into the existing gene pool through many sources. If you have some time and wish to be more informed please read this PDF which exposes the myths and truth about these technologies.
It is truly frightening. Once unleashed into the environment these organisms will effect the course of evolution on this planet.
Monsanto is a mammoth corporation with the full weight of the state and federal governments behind them, but the one thing that they fear is an informed and activated public. So please come out of your comfort zones and join me and the Green Party at the capital north steps on May 25th at 11am.

It's always good to be in the company of others who share your concerns. It was probably under on thousand people but good energy made it feel much bigger. I didn't run into anyone from this group as I was hoping to but that wasn't the major point. I hope some who signed up were there.
Now it's back to trying to create the kind of world I hope to live in.

The most important thing is to show up and be counted. If you want to make a sign that's great. I'm taking light rail down there. I'm going to wear a green shirt and congregate near the green party. They may have signs for people. I am not sure. I'm just glad to see more and more members from this group are rallying. I hope we can actually meet up I have not met a lot of people from SAPG. I hope to.

It's true that Kaiser Permanent'e has officially warned it's members to avoid GMO's http://blog.fooducate.com/2012/11/30/kaiser-permanente-warns-millions-of-members-avoid-gmos/
We need as many people as possible to come out and show Monsanto that the game is almost up for their poison products. Now that the Grange meet-up has re-scheduled please consider joining with many others at the capital on Saturday at 11AM.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
