Intro to Applied Permaculture cont. - Passive Water Harvesting Techniques

Please join us on Oct 26th for an intro to passive water harvesting strategies and techniques. We will learn how, where and where NOT to construct various water structures, their functions and how to integrate structures. Topics will include rain water calculations, handmade leveling tool construction for finding contours and elevations, site assessment and water flow patterns, swales and their variations, infiltration basins as well as various water conserving strategies. There will also be some discussion on patterns of erosion and erosion control strategies. Very excited for this workshop it is the foundation from where to start site assessment!

The course and teacher were extremely informative including lecture, video and hands on demonstration. I was impressed and inspired. A special thank to Tara Sheen for all her hard work, commitment and a delicious meal. Chris Lopez was a rock star in covering the subject matter. The timing was perfect as I learned several things for immediate application. I also appreciated the expansion of the subject matter beyond just our own little world and environment to knowledge of the environmental history and present statistics concerning our region. I can't wait for more!

it was great meeting everyone yesterday, and hope to see you all again soon! I also realized that in my initial nervousness and haste, I miscalculated the basin equation!!!! SO....here goes....the formula is the same, but to find the radius you have to HALF to total footprint. so a basin that is 10ft wide on the outside, and 5ft and 2ft deep inside would look like: Pi x 2 (2.5 x 2.5)+ (2.5 x 5) + (5x5) divided by 3.

....I was thinking that the number was waaay higher than it should have been and meant to correct it but lost track of time!!! Sorry, folks

Turns out I have to supervise a work crew at my community garden downtown so my brother and I can't make it. He lives off the grid south of Yosemite and it is VERY dry and we both really looked forward to this class! Have fun everyone...

I am excited to meet local people interested in permaculture and sustainability. I thought I had to move to an outlying area to find you outside of online communities. My neighbor, Doug S., and I will be attending Saturday's meet-up and look forward to learning more about the group!
