Harvest Sacramento: Group Leader Training

Become a Harvest Group Leader with Harvest Sacramento!

Join our growing network of volunteers and help us make Sacramento an edible city!

Harvest Sacramento volunteers harvest excess fruit from local backyards and neighborhoods for donation to area food banks, connecting the bounty of the urban food forest to those in need.

Our group leaders engage volunteers in fun, inspiring, and productive experiences that meaningfully contribute to the wellbeing of local communities.

As a group leader, you will:
- Lead groups of 5-10 volunteers during a harvest event
- Help your group pick fruit in a safe and enjoyable manner
- Maintain our high fruit quality standards
- Ensure the tree owner is provided with top-notch service

You do not need to have gardening or orcharding experience, nor the ability to lift heavy objects or climb ladders...you just need to enjoy working with people and have a desire to support your community.

This training will include both "classroom" and hands-on "field" experiences that will have you fully prepared to lead (or co-lead) volunteers during our upcoming citrus harvest season. This is a great way to get involved with Harvest Sacramento and your community in general. Many of our group leaders from past seasons continue to join us on a regular basis and are now helping coordinate harvesting activities in their own neighborhoods.

Join us at this training, or one of our future trainings, and you'll be ready to lead (or co-lead) volunteers during the upcoming citrus season and beyond!

My thanks to everyone who came! We've trained nearly 50 new harvest group leaders during the past two months, and are now turning our attention to planning community citrus harvest events which will begin January 11th. We'll be hosting large events each Saturday into April, and our neighborhood groups will be coordinating harvests in their communities as well. For those who weren't able to make a training, but are still interested, please contact me at [masked] to express your interest. I will either offer another training in late January / early February, or offer training harvest groups at our Saturday events. We can also offer opportunities to shadow an experienced group leader during harvests as another pathway to joining our volunteer community. We hope to see many of you at harvest after the new year! Util then, here are some photos from the 3 trainings - https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.786865161339152.1073741840.369367683088904&type=1

Great training; great program. If you are interested in local food systems and the urban foodshed, come to one of the Saturday gleaning harvests.

I was able to participate in today's training and encourage other Sac Permies to watch for opportunities to volunteer with Harvest Sacramento, if you haven't already. There can't be too many hands to help!

P.s. Dominic is a very good facilitator! Please see his post for contact info.

For those of you who would like to become a group leader with Harvest Sacramento, but are unable to attend tomorrow's training, we have a couple options for you. I will most likely offer one more group leader training in late January or early February, and we will also provide opportunities to "shadow' an experienced harvest leader during an event as alternate pathway. Contact me at [masked] for more info.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
