Looks like most of us are agreeing that going on a hike(most likely a social walk, not a fitness hike) along the American River and having a picnic is a great way to celebrate the First Day of Spring. We can start at Sunflower Cafe(vegetarian), where those who did not bring their backpack full of picnic food can order a lunch-to-go(suggestion: eating a full meal there before the hike may not be advisable because the food, overall, is pretty heavy--yeah, heavy vegan food! Ha!). You can park along the side streets, next to or around the adjacent park. Carpooling is definitely encouraged!
We can set off for our leisurely hike from the cafe and head up or downriver after crossing the pedestrian bridge. In October we attempted this hike and two hiking groups formed--the fast group and the leisurely group. Just be aware there will be plenty of cyclists on the trail, and they have the right of way, for sure! We can let the day, the way, happen naturally...
Halfway along our walk(however long we decide as a group to hike), we can find a picnic spot...there are many along the way. Bring a towel or small blanket to sit on, if you like, and don't forget your water! Cameras are encouraged, too...the scenery will be amazing, no doubt.
There have been suggestions for a drumming circle...humane drums, only, of course...let me know your ideas on this subject! There is the consideration of the natural setting, that human-caused noise may not be the greatest addition...(we could always wait til the Whole Earth Fest in Davis in May!)
And I welcome ideas on the starting time of this event(is earlier better?), and any after-hike/picnic ideas...! Thanks!
