For our second October meet-up one of our super duper fab members, Tom, has invited us into his home. Tom has graciously volunteered to let us all come over to his beautiful Davis home for an evening of vegan fun and pumpkin carving. This will be a potluck event. As always, when a meet-up is in someone’s home, be sure to bring your own plate, silverware and cup as well as your potluck food or drink item. Please be sure to include what type of dish or drink (soda or vegan beer and wine are all welcome) in your RSVP. After dinner we hope guests will be excited to do some pumpkin carving. Be sure to bring your own pumpkin and carving knife/tool. Looking forward to seeing a great turnout of vegan friends and yummy food on Sunday Oct. 25th PLEASE call Tom, if you get lost or have issue with the mapquest/google map directions.

Wellness Class: Holiday Eating Survival Techniques Here's some scary food for thought: to gain five pounds from now to the end of January, all you have to do is eat an average of 200 calories per day more than you need -- an ounce of fudge here, an ounce of gravy there, some pecan pie. If you need to 'get a grip' on eating splurges, the winter holiday months are key to your long range planning. The holidays typically encourage people to indulge in high-fat, high-calorie foods that are low in nutrients, and this is also the time we're most likely to make excuses for skipping exercise. Pre-registration is required with Whole Foods Market. Please call 488-2800 x0 to register. Totally last minute :) BUT fun for those who can join. The Counter is a super duper fab burger place with the most amazing sweet potato fries AND they do an all vegan burger that is sooooo good. The vegan burger is prepared and cooked totally separate from any of their non-vegan items so no worries about dairy/meat cooties!! Please check out the website for the vegan burger info. After dinner the plan (if people are interested) is to caravan over to PF Changs for drinks and a yummy, done vegan style, banana dessert :D During the meetup I would love to chat with some of our more seasoned members for some fun ideas for future meetups. http://www.thecounte rburger.com/ If you CANNOT make this meetup, there is another meetup planned for next weekend at a vegan members home.

We're taking this meetup on the road! AND joining forces with the Chico Vegan Meetup group :) Thanks to Jeannie for making all the arrangements for this fab meetup. On the road to Vacaville to take a tour Animal Place, a farmed animal sanctuary and education center. Animal Place, founded in 1989, is a nonprofit sanctuary for abused and discarded farmed animals. Rescued individuals and indigenous wildlife share 60 acres of forest, meadow, pasture, hills and small lake. Animal Place will be expanding to a large property in Nevada County starting next year, so this year may be the last year that folks can visit the Vacaville location. After the tour, we'll go eat lunch at a pizzeria that offers vegan pizza with vegan cheeze on top (recommended by the staff at Animal Place).
