Join our "Solar Veg Team"!

Solar Cookers International has invited Sacramento Vegetarian Society members to provide healthy vegan food samples at Shine On!. We could use a few more members of our small but enthusiastic team. A solar-cooked vegan dish is preferred, but stove-cooked is okay too. We'll be providing "tastes" to Shine On! guests.

If you think you'd like to bring food to be sampled at the event, please indicate so here, or call Mary at[masked], or e-mail [masked].

Support: Please join SVS in supporting sacramento-based SCI, which has been spreading solar cooking awareness and skills worldwide since 1987. Their efforts have enabled tens of thousands of third-world families to cook with the sun's energy, freeing women and children from the burden of gathering increasingly scarce firewood and carrying it for miles. Results include less deforestation, and less disease, since water can be sterilized with solar cookers.

Other SCI activities include publications, information exchange networks, research, technical support, advocacy with governments and nongovernmental organizations, and consultative status with the U.N.

Our initial collaboration with Solar Cookers International was great. So many people thanked us for being there and for providing healthy, vegan options. We look forward to more connections with this worthy organization.

Our "Solar Team Veg" crew will have lots of healthy, tasty, vegan options at "Shine On!" for your tasting pleasure—it'll be awesome! Rumor has it that the menu will include vegan sweet potato stew, date-oat bars, curry vegetables, lentil salad—and that ain't all!

At the last potluck I learned a vegan can use a plastic turkey bag to solar cook, and hope maybe to learn more at this event
