Monthly Vegan Potluck: "The Team Veg Project"

Speaker: Jedidiah Soliz will tell us about the Team Veg Project, a team of Sacramento-area athletes training and competing on a 100% plant-based diet. Jed's presentation will include:

• Team Veg agenda and mission

• Advice and tips for optimal performance and injury prevention.





Jedidiah Soliz is a self-employed landscape gardener and designer. He graduated from American River College with an A.S. degree in horticulture for both the landscape and nursery industries. During his time there, he competed in cross country for the college team. Once graduated, he continued to compete in races, mostly focusing on the 5k to 10k. 

Jedidiah first became interested in the idea of vegan in 2003 from his sister, Vanessa Dawn Soliz, who passed away in a motorcycle accident in 2006. Inspired by his sister who had been a raw vegan for 3 years before she died, he started a transformation plan in 2008 to become vegan by his 30th birthday in 2012. At the beginning of 2011 he went vegetarian and mostly vegan; 2011 then became his most successful running year, with personal records in several race distances, but then he outdid that in 2012 and 2013 after becoming completely vegan. He credits this mostly to his change in dietary lifestyle. 

Jedidiah is passionate about holistic and plant-based nutrition! His mission is to educate and show, with his own experiment, that one can thrive in a competitive sport on a plant-based diet.  He is concerned about every aspect of the benefits of the vegan lifestyle, including 

• health and how our food choices impact other people,

• the environment and how we can save and conserve our land, and 

• the animals and how we can help eliminate the pain and suffering of these innocent creatures by not putting them on our plate! 

Jedidiah truly believes that you are what you eat—and what you eat really makes a difference!!

Potluck. Bring:

a vegan (no animal products, including no eggs or dairy products) dish to feed at least six;

your plate, bowl, cup, eating and serving utensils;

a list of ingredients.

    Great! Jed gave excellent information on fitness that anyone at any athletic level could use, and he's a great example of what can be achieved on a plant-based diet.
