At the monthly meeting of the ELK GROVE VEGETARIAN SOCIETY, SVS members Glenn Destatte, Mary Rodgers, and Ilsa Hess will share amusing anecdotes, inspiring milestones, and big changes from nearly three decades that have seen some pretty radical changes for the vegetarian community. They’ll ponder what has fueled the group’s success and growth, but the focus will be on recent adventures and what lies ahead—in Elk Grove, Sacramento, and beyond.
Glenn Destatte, who went vegan in 2006 after seeing the movie “Fast Food Nation,” started his fourth year as SVS President in March 2014.
Mary Rodgers, an active SVS member for 27 of its 28 years, is the current SVS Secretary.
SVS Webmaster Ilsa Hess is the owner of Love and Joy Foods—creator of Nacheez, a locally made vegan nacho cheese sauce. In 2014 Ilsa has presented a successful series of vegan cheese-making workshops, and we hope she will be able to schedule one for EGVS in the near future.
Since October 2013, SVS has hosted four of its most successful events. Glenn will talk about those successes and plans to build on them in 2014 as well as talk about working in collaboration with other groups to promote a plant-based diet.
