Introduction

Animal lover! Took my profile photo at Animal Place during their Barn Warming. I don't know the boy, just recognized the natural affinity between species :) Love Animal Place and Farm Sanctuary! Gave away Animal Place calendars for Christmas.

Why are you interested in SVS?

I like being around compassionate people, people who THINK and CARE

What can SVS do for you?

No answer yet

Tell us about yourself.

I was a lacto-ovo vegetarian for 39 years when I discovered the horrors of the dairy and even "free-range" egg industries (how can we refer to animals as if they are manufactured products?). Been a vegan now for 2-1/2 years...never felt better! Really enjoy my food now :) Lost 25 lbs when I concentrated on "whole" foods. But it is really about the animals.... I feel great sadness and regret for condoning lacto-ovo, even finding excuses to use leather ("they aren't killed for leather"). The poor innocent creatures: their short, miserable lives and brutal deaths. Leather and dairy/meat subsidize each other...cows must have calves to produce milk- the boys live horrid, short lives and are killed for veal...just hatched male chicks are brutally killed because they are worthless... I am so very sorry

Are you vegan, vegetarian, omnivore, or transitioning?

vegan, mostly "whole food" (no more leather, silk, wool either)

What Beryl Gilbert is saying about this Meetup Group

nice to meet like-minded people! Especially happy to meet Cliff of Stone Lake Farms. Can't wait to visit his organic farm....he doesn't use gross fertilizers :) (read the ingredients in typical "organic fertilizer", you may be unpleasantly surprised). Let's buy his produce! Check out his web site www.stonelakefarms.com

Still figuring out how this site works. Just now found your message from March. I tried to go to Farm Sanctuary once, but wasn't able to get a ticket to the night event I was trying to attend. I hope to go in the near future still. :)

wow you are learning lot of dishes...I don't know any of those. All of those are South Indian cuisine, very yummy. I love dosa, Idly, vada and Uttapam in it but i don't get much time to attend any cooking class or so. Well i anyways cook occasionally so i guess i am just lazy :)

I know some of North Indian cuisine cooking. My mom knows all kinda different indian cuisine and i love to just eat, eat and eat when she cooks. Last time i went to home, i gained 8 kgs weight in 7 days :-)

Hi Beryl, Nice to see you yesterday! I know what you mean about organic fertilizers/potting soil?bone meal, blood meal, feather meal, etc. "Organic" doesn't mean animal free or cruelty free. I'd be interested in knowing other options (in addition to home-made compost). So far, I haven't found any.
