Silent Meditation

Co-creating a strong container is the first step to sharing deep meditation, so please honor the following:

As much as possible dial down external stimuli starting the night before (e.g. TV, music, loud gatherings, etc.). The sooner we begin quieting our minds before the gathering, the deeper our practice will be. Refraining from intoxicants and getting good sleep the night before are also recommended.

It is tradition to be in one's cushion five minutes before meditation starts. Please plan to arrive 15-20 minutes early so that we are all seated and ready at 8:55. If you are new to sitting meditation and/or Zen, please contact me in advance to review posture, practice form, etc.

The practice format will be:

• Context and sitting/meditation instruction: 15 minutes, if needed

• Morning chanting service: 30 minutes.

If you'd like to read it in advance, the text for this service is in the Hollow Bones sutra book, available as a free pdf at www.mondozen.org. Sutra books will be available for use in the zendo.

• Qi gong: 10 minutes

• Meditation: 30 minutes

• Qigong: 10 minutes

• Mediation: 30 minutes

• Qigong: 10 minutes

• Dharma discussion and/or review of Mondo Zen: whatever time is left

For this and all gatherings, donations are requested but never required. Consider it an opportunity to explore the experience of generosity. Paradoxically in life, the more we consciously give, the more we authentically receive. The donations will be used to support the operations of Hollow Bones and for scholarships to retreats; purchase cushions for East coast retreats; and lastly, I give a lot to my training and capacity to share this, and need to support my livelihood. However little or much you can offer is welcome. Please donate on the value you receive from these gatherings, and being generous with your means without financially hurting yourself. Please bring cash.

As always, if you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

Until then, may your practice be clear and strong,

Paco
