We are trying out a new, earlier start time for the Fall/Winter months - the evening begins with a potluck at 5:30 pm. We will bless the food and begin eating at 5:45 PM. Bring a delectable dish and bring your own plate, bowl, utensils, mug and napkin.
The fire will begin in the tipi at approximately 6:45 pm. In the spirit of exchange, please bring something to share - chocolate, wood for the fire, songs, stories, poems. Also, we suggest a $5 monetary donation (more if you can, less if you can't), and we will "pass the hat" at the fire - no amount is too small.
The Community Fire is a consecrated fire, and everyone who would like to will have the opportunity to give offerings to the fire in the tradition of the Huichol people. The significance of the offerings and the procedure for making offerings will be explained at the beginning of the fire. The Huichol have loaned this way of consecrating the Fire, but the Fire is non-denominational and open to everyone.
Every fire is different. Some are small and intimate, others larger and more boisterous. There’s sometimes drumming and singing, sometimes jokes, and always the opportunity to share and speak about what's most important to us in our lives. This is a safe place where you can be heard. All are welcome, no matter your background, belief, tradition or non-tradition. The fires are family-friendly and open to people of all ages. Come share whatever needs to be spoken, and a willingness to listen from the heart. Come with your concerns, your stories, your gifts, your laughter as we connect with old friends and meet new ones, and begin to deepen into that sense of community that is so essential to support us through life.
Some people partake in the smoking of tobacco around the fire. Tobacco is a sacred plant whose energy is very similar to the energy of Fire. When smoked consciously and with intention tobacco fosters connection with Fire and Heart. To accommodate both tobacco smokers and those not smoking tobacco, a portion of the space around the fire circle will be designated as a non-smoking section, and another portion as the smoking section.
