Road Trip to TMC Connect

The ultimate Tesla get together. Last year it was Teslive. This year it is TMC Connect. Last year's Teslive featured speakers on various topics important to Tesla owners and enthusiasts, a tour of the Tesla factory and according to Craig some interesting talk around the hot tub. This year they are doing it again. And for us Model S owners the Refuel event will offer the opportunity to run your Model S on the famous Laguna Seca Race way.

Dates of the event are July 18th to 20th. Exact location is yet to be set but we are told it is Northern California, probably near San Jose. For more events you can check out the official site at http://www.teslamotorsclub.com/connect/

As part of this event a number of members of our St. Louis Tesla Enthusiasts group will be driving out Model S's cross country to the event. We will meet up with other enthusiasts coming from the East Coast, probably in Denver.

If you would be interested in joining the drive west, please RSVP to this event. If you'd be interested in flying out to the event please check out the official site.

As we get more details as to the dates we will leave from St. Louis and the route we will update this post. Right now it looks that we will follow the route that I (Liz) took to get to Denver and then meet up with the owners out east there. Then follow the the Super Charger network from Denver to San Jose.

Hello all! I joined your group even though I'm not local! Just so everyone knows - I will be driving back to New York after the conference, so anyone with reservations about driving back alone need not worry!

I don't plan on going, but I'm wondering if you've considered/investigated having the cars shipped to Denver to save time? I'd imagine the cost would be manageable if you find a truck that will carry more than one car at a time.

It's a good idea. I believe a few of the east coasters will be shipping their cars back. It's a great idea, but I have heard off the cuff quotes of $1 per mile in other threads. Doesn't hurt to call though.

If that's accurate, it'd be ~$850. The northern route is 1500mi, or ~22hrs of drive time. I guess it all comes down to how much your time is worth, or how much you value getting there and being able to say you didn't use any gas. :) Hey, maybe you could get the transporter to let you sit in the S on the way and save yourself a plane ticket too!

I added my name to the list just for planning purposes as I'm still on the fence. It does seem like quite a bit of fun road tripping! I could see myself enjoying the drive out with plenty of SuperChargers being available (unless all of the stalls were full from caravan usage!) but the drive back seems less fulfilling.

Maybe there will be a modular hook up where we connect all the cars together and just share batteries while the car in the front acts like a locomotive!

Ok, for those going looks like we have two options as far as routes.

We could leave on Sunday morning early and meet up with the group from the East Coast in Rockford and then follow their route across the upper US to Colorado and out to California.

Or we could leave Sunday evening and follow the route I took to Denver.

The route I took is shorter but the route north is filled with SuperChargers. So the question is do you want to take the shorter distance with longer charging stops or do you want the longer distance with SuperChargers?

Here is the planning thread from TMC if you want to review the East Coast owners route.

I have been going back and forth on the possibility of taking the northern route vs straight out to Denver without superchargers. From the planning thread, it looks like Rockford is only the first or second stop for them that day; if we were to meet up with them at Rockford and then continue on the planned end point that day of Worthington, MN - we are looking at over 750 miles that day. We could go up the night before, but I right now I would rather go forward and make progress on the route instead of backtracking (double backtracking, actually since we would be going a little east and very far north).

I would say at this point let's hope for some supercharger build outs between STL and Denver between now and July.

Planning has begun on the TMC Connect Roadtrip. Please check out this thread on TMC forums: http://www.teslamotorsclub.com/showthread.php/27813-Planning-Cross-Country-TeslaRoadTrip-to-TMC-Connect!

Also, send an email to [masked] to let them know that you will be joining the caravan (include where you are from, where you plan to join up with the caravan, and if you are driving a 60 or 85.)
