A one or optional two night tent/car camp at Limberlost Campground -August 9-11th. Day trips Saturday and Sunday to various options around the upper Mckenzie River and McKenzie Pass area. The campground is 3 miles east of McKenzie Bridge on hwy 242.
This will be a plan-as-we- go weekend with the trips decided on the night before around the campfire. There are many options within easy driving distance of the campground – from cool shady creekside trails to high mountain lakes, lava flows, spectacular waterfalls and snow capped peaks. The Mckenzie River trail is a great mountain bike trail if you’re into that. If you’ve never explored this unique area of the Oregon cascades this is your chance.
Depending on turnout we can have a couple options each day - weather and motivation dependent. I will have some trail info and trips loosely planned but I haven’t been on many in the area so it will be a group exploration and decision. Some may want to do a long ambitious hike while others may choose two short trips or spend a day swimming – then meet back at camp share stories.
Everyone will be responsible for their own sleeping arrangements, food, WATER and - BYOB of choice- with a Saturday night potluck part of the deal. There is a $12 fee per campsite with $6 charge for an additional vehicle. I’m pretty sure we can fit at least 3-4 small tents on each site so it would end up being about $4-5 a night- depending on cars, etc.
Limberlost campground is 120 miles from Salem via hwy 22, 20 and 126
95 miles from Corvallis via hwy 34, 20, and 126
56 miles from Eugene via 126
There is a small grocery store 3 miles from the campground. There is NO RUNNING WATER AT THIS CAMPGROUND. I will be leaving early on Friday (4pm) from the Sweet Home area - and can snag as many camp spots as needed. I will be bringing firewood for two nights. I will have a gas 2 burner stove for community use.
There may be an option for showing up Saturday or Sunday morning and joining a hike as long as you’re on time and reasonably early – but you’ll have to go with whatever was decided on the night before! This will need to be discussed on the forum here. Please be prepared to exhibit courteous campground behavior and share transportation cost with those willing to drive.
We can talk carpool options on the discussion board as always.
