This one requires a shuttle between Forest Road 2233 (McCoy Creek Road) and FR 2243 (Whitewater Road) which are both just past Idanha. My preference is to start on the Cheat Creek trail. There is a cool meadow on the Cheat Creek trail, a fun ridge to traverse to get over to Triangulation, a good view of the cave from below, then the view from the top of Triangulation and a short spur to take from there to go down to the cave. From there, it's out to the Triangulation trailhead and parking area and shuttling folks to FR 2243 to pick up the other vehicles. I think linking these trails results in about 8-10 miles total distance, but I really don't know for sure. This is moderate difficulty as far as elevation gain, but the ridge trail to work west to Triangulation is a bit tricky. This also might require a bit of route finding on the far side of the cheat creek meadow. I always seem to have to search around a bit to pick the trail back up again. Here are 3 links to some of the details: http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/willamette/recreation/hiking/recarea/?recid=4274&actid=51
Bug spray, food and plenty of water all necessary. Also suggest long pants since the ridge trail between Cheat Creek and Triangulation does not get a lot of use and can be pretty brushy. I suggest an earlier meetup time since this is a longer trail and requires the shuttle.
I'm also open to changing the date to sometime in September though I will be on another trip out of state August 24th through September 9th. 9-14, 9-21, 9-28, and 10-5 are some other dates that would work well for me. I'm all for picking the date that will allow those most interested to make it.
