Hike to Park Ridge for a fantistic view of Mt. Jefferson as our reward.

If you've never been to Park Ridge here's your chance. If you are interested see last years trip report and pictures July 7th 2013. The view from the ridge at 7,000 ft. is fantastic. We will park at the PCT trail head up skyline road only about 1/4 mile from Brietenbush Lake 5,500 ft. Elev. It's an early start but the drive up skyline road is slow and in places very rough. Anyone driving will need a vehicle with good ground clearance.  I'll be wearing a light long sleeve shirt and pants incase the skeeters are out. Bring your day packs with snacks, food, water for the hike. Bug spray may be needed.  Sunscreen, sunglasses, hiking poles if you have them. Last July we had a fair amount of snow travel at the end of the hike, gators are good if you have them (or dry socks at the car)   Bring a hat the last 1/3 third out to the ridge is often out in the sun with little shade on Park Ridge. RESPONSIBLE BEHAVIOR TO THE GROUP AND ENVIRONMENT REQUIRED. LEAVE NO TRACE Please if you RSVP and something comes up and you need to drop give as much notice as possible. About 7 1/2 miles long. With 1500 foot elevation gain. Moderate difficulty Please be prepared to chip in to help cover gas costs if you are carpooling with some one. I think with this years modest snow pack we will have no troubles driving or hiking to our goal. That being said I will have a plan B.... you know just incase. Kari, Kari, Kari.
You know the trip from last year, this year was better. We had more travel over snow, the roll of thunder on the hike to the ridge. A few minutes of calm weather. Then a little dash of rain, more thunder, quite a few lightening bolts to encourage us to hurry back to the waiting cars. We had smoke and flames from a lightening strike nearby. Warm Springs Indian Reservation ( which boarders the edge of the wilderness area )had 1500 strikes ) I know Kristi and the others took plenty of photos I'm hope to see some of them posted. Apollo the wonder dog was unfazed by the thunder and lightening . Great trip!

I highly recommend this hike; it was so magestic! I would only say to heed people's warnings about mesquitos. I didn't think much of it until actually experiencing the sheer numbers. Thank you for all who brought bug spray!

I'm going to have to break the rules and cop on this at the last minute. I'm really sorry to do it but something came up that I can't avoid. Thanks for the offer, I hope to make it another time.

No worries Michael. Thanks for keeping me informed. I appreciate it.

Thanks to those of you that updated your RSVP.
A reminder bring enough water and sunscreen. It'll be bright out in the sun at 6000ft + Bug spray could be really helpful.
Skyline Road to the trailhead ( last 7 miles ) is bumpy and rough. SUV type ground clearance is needed, my Subaru Forester makes the trip fine.
Looking forward to seeing you all in the morning

It's great to have so many interested in this hike. I would really appreciate it if those persons that are signed up could be sure and update their RSVP status if you are not able to attend. We have a big wait list, it'd be a shame have some not be able join us if some that signed up don't show.

Hello everyone. I'm new to Salem and am looking for an outdoor group to tag along with. Is there room for another on this coming Sundays' trip? I don't have a vehicle that handles off-roading, but I can provide gas money for carpools and such. Thanks!

Thanks to all for your interest. Kari sorry you can't make it, missing the hike and the return of the big cookie.
Who among you that are going can drive, Skyline Road to the trailhead ( last 7 miles ) is bumpy and rough. SUV type ground clearance is needed, my Subaru Forester makes the trip fine.

Faren Wilderness regulations limit group size to 12.
I have yet to see 100% turnout for any hike, people sign up, but invariably there are no shows. We may be able to split the group if turn out warrants it.
