This is a Meet Up group for Salmon Bay Paddle, a Seattle based Paddle Board and Kayak instruction and tour school owned by SUP guidebook author and expert certified instructor Rob Casey. Experience is required to go on our Meet Up Group Paddles. Wanna learn to SUP? Check out our basic class options below to get started. First time? We work individually with each person so you feel comfortable. We work with all body types, physical levels and ages novice through advanced. Many of our students lives have been transformed by SUP! We also have strong focus on safety so you have more fun.
Check our Calendar for upcoming classes and tours. Call us to arrange a date around your schedule if you don't see it on the calendar. We do a lot of custom scheduled classes and tours. We're open all year and provide toasty wetsuits and booties. Don't wait till summer, our toasty wetsuits will keep you more than warm and comfortable January or April. Life's to short to wait for a sunny day in Seattle.
Who this group is not for: You don't like to wear a lifejacket or leash. Or wetsuit in January. We like people who prefer to use common sense vs just being cool on the water. We paddle all year and have more fun because we use smart gear for PNW conditions.
Level 1 - Beginner. Never paddled before or have had a lesson. Have only gone a few times in summer. Not comfortable in bumps and paddling on your own.
Level 2 - Intermediate. You can handle boat and wind waves with ease standing, you can turn and stop on your own in bumps, you can paddle in up to 20kts of wind, have done SUP surfing (recently), maybe have taken our DP class, own your own gear and paddle regularly.
Level 3 - Advanced. You can handle wind up to 40kts; surf waves up to 5+', paddle often, have paddled for several years, may have solid river/currents experience, and have your own gear.
Who Shouldn't Sign Up?You can't swim; You don't want to wear a leash and PFD; You might be a no show for a trip your RSVP'd on; You don't care about safety; You have a crappy attitude.
