The Heirs of Tantalus

From the House of Atreus to the Palace of Nero

Mythic characters of ancient Greek drama intertwine with notorious historical figures of the depraved court of Nero.

Clytemnestra, Orestes, Agrippina, Poppea, Ottone, and Nero find expression in Aeschylus, Euripides, Suetonius, Monteverdi, Scarlatti, and Handel, as the Arc of Justice meets Decline and Fall.

Two actors and two singers perform multiple roles in this site-specific interdisciplinary event, staged at a repurposed bank originally designed to replicate a Roman villa. Music includes selections from the operas L'Incoronazione di Poppea and Agrippina, and the cantatas Io Son Nerone and Agrippina Condotta a Morire.

Jessica Gould, soprano, José Lemos, countertenor
Jory Vinikour, harpsichord
members of The Sebastians Chamber Orchestra
Guest Actors
Erica Gould, Stage Director

I thought this was a real one-of-a-kind production, and very well done. I absolutely loved the performances and hope they think about doing it again in the future.

Loved it! Very interesting and unusual production concept. My taste was more for the music than the theatrical element, but overall, really enjoyed the performance. That venue is amazing.

Loved the chamber orchestra and the singers, but the actors needed to slow the dialogue down, project, and over-emphasize the diction, esp. final consonants. Way, way too much echo.
