So I have never been to Fruita and I'm dying to go! A coworker who is a big biker said October would be a perfect time. I have started researching the area trails and camping and so far have come up with the following:
Leave Salt Lake City around 8am and make it to Fruita around 12:30. Look for camp site and set up camp at 18 road campground. Pick out a shorter ride in the 18 road trail area to do an evening ride.
This is THE place to go in Fruita, located west of town on the Colorado. The heart of the trail system is Mary's Loop, from which you can veer off onto Rustler's Loop, Horsethief Bench, and Steve's with Handcuffs. Moore Fun offers a technical return option. At the northwest end, your after-lunch ride will be Lions Loop with Mack Ridge and Troy Built. The return route along the freeway is doubletrack, otherwise it's all fun singletrack, with just a smattering of tech stuff thrown in. Great views of the Colorado River.
Saturday night we should plan on going into Fruita and eating at Hot Tomato Cafe or if we are up for it driving into Grand Junction for the evening:)
We will pick a ride near the camp site in the 18 Road trail system like Shutes and Ladders(6-7 miles) or Zippidy Do Dah(6 miles). There are all levels of trails out here so we can even break up into groups and do different leveled rides if we want.
Or we could hit the Lunch Loops that is a 20 min ride from Fruita. I'd like to check out the Holy Cross trail(5 miles) here. We might want to pack up camp first before we head out to ride this area.
After lunch we can pack up and head home:(
*If anyone has any suggestions to this plan so far please let me know since I've never been there.*
