Gang- Weather looks to be cooperating this week (knock wood), so I'm posting an All Levels ride at Alta's Albion Basin for Tuesday evening. If you have never been to Alta in the Summer, you are in for a treat. In mid-Summer the resort is renown for its wild flowers and this is peak season. The riding through Albion Basin varies from beginner riding on gravel roads to advanced single track options higher up in the basin. This event is open to all level of riders, HOWEVER, keep in mind that the base elevation of Albion Basin is 8700ft and we will climb from there. That means even the climbing on the road will get the heart rate up quick, so please come with a modicum of fitness for this ride. I plan to lead the group up the gravel road to the Catherine Pass trail head. At that point stronger, more experienced riders can head up that trail to the pass overlooking Lake Catherine or take it around to the Devil's Castle area. Less experienced riders can stick with me and we will stay on less demanding terrain. The idea is to explore the Basin for awhile before descending back to the cars. I posted the meet time as 6pm. It would be great to be pedaling our bikes up the road by 615/620pm at the latest-so please arrive promptly. Anyone arriving later (or those looking to skip the pedaling up the road) could drive up past the guard shack and park at the Catherine Pass trail head parking lot and start/finish their ride from there. Or, if you get there early, are a beginner, and would like to have extra time for the road climb you could start pedaling sooner and we'll meet you at the Catherine Pass TH. I plan to include the road portion so will be parking in the area near the guard shack. Also, I plan to pack something to have for dinner back at the car-probably a hoagie (that's a sub sandwich for you non-East Coasters :p) or something similar-after riding. Anyone up for tail gating please do the same. I will try to have a few PBRs to share post ride....
As always, for this ride remember to bring:
-Bike, helmet, gloves, proper biking attire
-Plenty of water and snacks to fuel your ride
-Spare tube, multi-tool for trail side maintenance if needed
-Your camera. The views will be awesome, I promise.
Any questions please feel free to email me or post in the comments section.
