Kayak the sea caves

We wIll meet Saturday morning at 9:00 check our boats and gear, then launch from the beach at Vann Damn State park. We will select a course depending on the conditions. We will see some of the most beautiful caves, tunnels and rock formations on the north coast. We will stop on a secluded beach for lunch, then return. The trip will be an interesting 6 miles or so and last about 5 hours.
Bring: your kayak (it must have 2 bulkheads or float bags) paddle, a wet suit-- the water can be very cold, your life vest, and a helmet. Bring a lunch in a dry bag, plenty of water and some snacks. Bring a waterproof camera, your friends will love to see where you went and what you did!
This trip is for adventurous beginners with their own gear and ability to paddle an easy pace for an hour or two without getting out of the boat.

Cost for the trip is $50 and is limited to 6 people

It was a stellar weekend with great company. Saturday was a day with big water conditions and an exercise in sound judgement and good decisions. In this area, plan B is no less fun than plan A, it's simply different. In any case, it's always a good day when you awake to the sound of breaking waves and barking seals.

Thanks Jeff and Terri for this Mendo weekend, i learned what i wanted too, enjoyed just wonderful company, and had a great introduction to the area. I now see how the ocean weather can be a bit unpredictable, and how important it is to know when those waters rule. Well done!

Just one of those days on the ocean when it is better not to push too hard. We got out and got a taste of salty water, but the conditions didn't warrant further exploration. We will get together later this year and give it another shot. The good thing about Mendo is that there are lots of other things to do if Plan A doesn't work out.

This venue is for our small group guided tours and instruction. Many people pay much more for that for tours that are large impersonal groups that do not lead to learning the skills to become independent paddlers. For those who have skills to do these trips independently we encourage you to do so, or join Sacramento Sea Kayakers who do these types of trips in larger groups.
