Trout Tagging then Fishing

  • Nov 14, 2013 · 8:30 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

Summary: Volunteer to help tag trout at the Walhalla Hatchery then fish for a couple of days.

Details: Carpool early Thursday morning to the Hatchery to tag trout along with many other volunteers. Last year we were finished in a couple of hours but it could last longer. Lunch will be served at the tagging facility.

It is likely the tagging will be complete so the afternoon can be spent fishing.

Next, Saluda TU is paying for barracks for 2 nights as a reward for volunteering to tag fish. This gives you an opportunity to really explore the Chattooga and the area.

Stay as long as you like or just come up for the tagging. We need your help!

    Hello all,

Yes, I know.......should be Y'all but I'm a transplanted Yankee. Meaning I'm from the north, NH actually, not a NY Yankee!! Go Red Sox! Unfortunately I was not able to get up to Walhalla for the tagging today(it's about a 4 1/2 hr drive from my home in Daniel Island ). I'm curious if there are any other members of the Saluda River Chapter of TU who live on the Charleston area. I'd be very interested in meeting some fellow members.

The barracks and Oconee make for a fine place of accomodation. If making the trip please stop by the Chattooga River Fly Shop and Karl Eckberg. The Carolina Peach fly worked well last year, a must have for a visit to the river.

Basically, I am curious about the start time [7:00 am}. Hiway 107 and the road to the hatchery in the dark can be hazardous to one's health. Also I will be at the State Park & hope to hook up w/ Dermon on the 13th.{???}.

Good evening everyone, there have been several questions regarding the tagging at Walhalla Hatchery on 11/14. As of right now we are in the process of making arrangements for everyone to meet at Sportsman's Warehouse. I will send out a bulk email later this week to compile a final RSVP list so we can try and get several car pooling opportunities. Phil I noticed you said you asked two questions already with no answer. What were the questions and who did you ask? I will be happy to answer any questions you might have. Thanks to everyone offering to volunteer.

Jeremiah, I will be coming by myself. I plan to shoot photos along the way and I might camp at Oconee or Burrel's Ford. I will meet you guys at the Hatchery like I did last time.

Sorry, we are getting our communication paths settled properly. The management team isn't used to using the meetup yet. I'll get some movement going.
