Beginner Ride -- Leon Creek (Mountain Bike)

  • Leon Creek Greenway - Mainland Trailhead

8198 Mainland Drive, San Antonio, TX (map)

    29.518112 -98.632068

Look for the dark green mountain bike. We will be at the parking lot next to the covered area and park map.
  • We will begin at the Mainland Trailhead just off of Bandera Road and then follow the Leon Creek Greenway to O.P. Schnabel Park and beyond.  Anyone who is new to mountain bike riding can come out today and we will ride gently. Once you get an idea what it is like you can decide if you want to go on longer faster rides. Try it.  Everyone was a beginner and had to start somewhere and we all had to build up our endurance.  Also do not be concerned about whether you are slowing anyone down.  We are there to encourage beginners and we will make stops and we will ride slow and its OK.  Don't worry about it.

    Beginner ride today.

Our speed will range from about 6 to 10 mph

This ride will be on mostly dirt trails and some paved areas.  We will ride for 60 to 90 minutes.  We will meet by the shelter.

    The Usual Stuff:

As with any park we mountain bike there are smooth parts and rocky parts and any part that makes you uncomfortable you can walk though it. Make sure you have water, sun block, and wear a helmet.  When we ride we will have some rest stops along the way to let everyone catch their breath. I will only be there if there are people who RSVP "YES" by the RSVP deadline.

    Meet at:

We are meeting at the Mainland Trailhead parking lot. It is next to the WalMart and behind the apartment complex on Bandera road.
Look for the dark green mountain bike. I will probably be wearing black shorts and a blue shirt. See you there.

    Rain cancels this event.

The deadline to rsvp "Yes" for this meetup is 1 days before the ride.
