Join Green Spaces for it's next Garden Social: planned to be utterly enjoyable and simultaneously an opportunity to check "Practical" off your list for the week.

We're combining a seed swap, a garden documentary, and a potluck with fellowship. Join fellow gardeners for a relaxed evening in a garden setting. We'll sit back on lawn chairs and recline on picnic blankets for the following itinerary:

Tentative Agenda:

6:30pm: Join us early for a light gardening.

7:00pm: Package up your favorite, harvested, and extra seeds for exchanging during the furnished Seed Swap.

7:30pm: Make a dish to share for the pre-movie potluck.

8:30pm: Bring your lawn-chair or picnic blanket for a place to recline during the movie. Generally, movies start 30 minutes after sunset but if there happens to be cloud cover this evening, we will begin the movie as soon as it is dark enough.

Description of film: Ingredients

For the first time in history, our children’s generation is expected to have a shorter lifespan than our own. The quality, taste and nutritional value of the food we eat has dropped sharply over the last fifty years. Shipped from ever-greater distances, we have literally lost sight of where our food comes from and in the process we've lost a vital connection to our local community and to our health. American food is in a state of crisis, but a movement to put good food back on the table is emerging. What began 30 years ago with chefs demanding better flavor, has inspired consumers to seek relationships with nearby farmers.

The feature-length documentary, INGREDIENTS, illustrates how people around the country are working to revitalize that connection. Narrated by Bebe Neuwirth, the film takes us across the U.S. from the diversified farms of the Hudson River and Willamette Valleys to the urban food deserts of Harlem and to the kitchens of celebrated chefs Alice Waters, Peter Hoffman and Greg Higgins. INGREDIENTS is a journey that reveals the people behind the movement to bring good food back to the table and health back to our communities.
