Re: [San-Antonio-Permaculture] need new organizer

I'd think that members who are really interested, as opposed to just stopping by the web page for a look, would be willing to pay a small amount for dues. If there were, say, 30 people who were really interested, this would only work out to $2.40 per person per 6 months, or 40 cents per month.

Dues for  Meetup are $19 for one month, $15 for three months, $72 for six months.  I purchased a six month period in September so the group is paid up until the middle of March.

I didn't know there were dues.  What are they?
I joined, but haven't been able to make any meetups because I work 12 hour shifts every weekend.

I have an idea where we might be able to meet once in a while.
I will get back to you on it.

Hello,

And I do believe you're right about the group and the difficulties that we're having.  I have checked many of the meet-ups that have been posted but have either other prior commitments or am not interested as you stated.
So if this helps, here's what I would like to see.  This may only be true for me, but perhaps a short survey sent out via email will give us all a better idea of what direction the group needs to go.

1.  I am an suburban dweller, so am interested in putting permaculture into practice in my small microcosm of space.  For example how to use permaculture practices in a backyard garden; how a bat box can assist in controlling flies/mosquitos without the use of chemicals; how to design a low cost rain collection system for the small gardener; small animal husbandry in the city.
2.  I live in the suburbs, but would also like to know about organic gardening on a small scale, composting backyard and kitchen waste in terms of difference between hot composting vs. cold composting. Techniques and pros/cons.
3. Water conservation and landscaping in a suburban setting would also be of interest to me.  For example plants that would work well in our conditions that would yeild herbs/edible flowers in this area.  And how I can mix those into my landscaping all around my home.  Not just in the backyard.

Workshops, open forums, discussions, that were presented in and around the S.A. area would fit for me.  Cost is not the issue, but learning is.  Perhaps working with the agricultural extension in Bexar/Comal/Kendal/Medina counties etc. would work.
A set schedule to start of a once a month meet-up to start or restart the group.  Then moving on from there.  I'm not sure if this helps. But perhaps it will give you an idea of what I'm looking for.  If you would like help to design a survey with a few questions to get ideas of what everyone (who answers) wants I would be willing to help.  I encourage you to continue forward as the organizer of the group.  Taking over a near dormant group and bringing it back to life isn't easy.  Hang in there.

I took over the organizer position of SA Permaculture in Practice meetup group because the previous organizer disappeared and the group was about to disappear also if the dues weren't paid.  I find I'm not a good organizer because I don't live in San Antonio so it's hard for me to know where to hold meetups, also I do not know what kinds of activities the members would like to attend.

This group has over 190 members but we're not meeting each other.  I hope someone will step up and help make this group active, because I think we all care about permaculture, we're just not sure what to do about it!

Please email me if you'd like to be an organizer, or if you have some ideas for meetups you would like to attend.
