New Meetup: Bike Government Canyon

Announcing a new Meetup for San Antonio Skeptics!

What: Bike Government Canyon

When: Saturday, October 16,[masked]:30 AM

Where: Government Canyon
12861 Galm Rd
San Antonio, TX 78254

We are meeting at Government Canyon for a Mountain Bike ride. We will start with the backcountry trails and we will also explore the frontcountry bike routes. There is a fee of 6.00 to enter the park unless you have an annual state park pass. After the ride we can go to one of the restaurants that are in the area of Culebra & 1604 to eat and discuss. I am thinking Mama Margies will be a good choice because they have an outdoor patio.

As with any park we mountain bike there are smooth parts and rocky parts and any part that makes you uncomfortable you can walk though it. Make sure you have water, sun block, and wear a helmet. We will be riding for an unknown amount of time. I estimate about 2 hours minimum. When we ride we will have some rest stops along the way to let everyone catch their breath. I will only be there if there are people who RSVP "YES" by the RSVP deadline.

The back country trails require a lot of climbing and in some parts we have to walk our bikes up. So that means you have to be able to push your bike uphill in some sections. I ride the downhills aggressively, but I do stop and wait for the cautious. (Thats OK)

Meet at:

Look for the dark green mountain bike. I will probably be wearing black shorts and a blue shirt. We will meet at the visitor center close to the water tower and bathrooms.

Rain cancels this event.

The deadline to rsvp "Yes" for this meetup is the day before the meetup.

Make sure you have enough water for yourself. I will bring about 4 bottles or more of water for myself.
If you are a beginner then this is not the ride for you. It is a difficult ride that takes us about 2 hours 20 minutes.
