My Witches' Meetup group had too many folks who were looking for specifically Wiccan information and discussion, so I started this one separately to focus more precisely on the religion itself.
Yes. I had to; I wrote 'em!
Initiated into Lycian Wicca in '94.
Ran two previous covens with my husband, and was a member of a Gard-based coven before that. Currently a priestess without a captive audience. ;)
Yes, I've been Wiccan since '88. I love the structure, the focus on a Divine balance, and the freedom of expression within the doctrine.
"The Truth About Witchcraft Today" by Scott Cunningham. The first book that led me to explore paganism in general was "The New Pagans" by Hans Holzer.
"Married Wiccan mom w/2 daughters, adult and teen. Pagan since the early '80s, Wiccan since '88."

The Validity of Eclecticism and Non-Initiation
""When Wicca began, everyone was a Traditionalist: they were members of covens that trained them in the ways of the coven and put them through an initiation ceremony. Even the definition I use for Wicca lists initiation as a core value of Wicca...."
Samhain - what does it mean to you?
"Samhain, "summer's end," is a festival held at the end of the harvest season. It has been toted as the the beginning of the Celtic year, but current scholarship disputes that notion. Many modern Wiccans still use it as such...."
"OK, this is a warning. Keep on topic, move non-related material to another thread. Future non-related material will result in thread deletion."
"Do you believe that Wicca is having a "pendulum swing" in relation to gender equality? It did start out very male-oriented; exploded into women-centric in the '60s and '70s. Where do you feel it is right now, and will it stay that way?"
"Meetup in the park sounds good. A park with lots of trees would be nice. There is a park by the Quarry, I forgot the name right now. Not to many people go there and it may be a good place to meet...."
