Arduino Workshop + Date, Time, Place

Hi everyone, it seems that there is so much interest in getting Arduino workshops running, but not a lot of workshops posted - so I'm taking the liberty of posting some.

We are the same group (Fab Lab) that hosted the Arduino workshops at MakerPlace that are posted on this Meetup.  We are running a series of Arduino workshops that we'd like to invite this group to again.  The workshops begin tomorrow (Sunday July 28) and run for the next few weeks.  You can RSVP here: http://www.meetup.com/FAB-LAB-San-Diego/  They are listed below.

Puru, if you're interested in teaching more workshops, I'd like to talk with you about that some more.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Arduino for Non-Programmers:

We kick off our Arduino series with Arduino 1 for non-programmers. You will leave this class with a solid foundation in programming, learning how to program interactions with the physical environment.  You will leave understanding what you need to know in order to get to the next stage of designing your own personal projects.  You will receive personalized attention from multiple class helpers and the instructor along the way.

Arduino 2 and 3 will help you along the way with your project, moving in to more advanced and specific programming, allowing you to add more complex characteristics to your project, adding inputs such as sensors to receive information and outputs such as motors to respond.  Examples of projects that participants in the past have made as a result of this course include  object-avoiding autonomous vehicles and audio-responsive LED arrays.

If you already are an experienced Arduino programmer, but want to work on getting to the next level with your project, you can come in at Arduino 2... please just email us.

Arduino for Programmers:

The for-programmers version of the Arduino workshop is the same as the non-programmers workshop, but for people with an understanding of syntax.  If you are a web developer or already write code (even if it's other than Arduino), this is the class for you.

Hi everyone. I just bought an Arduino Uno. I'm having a difficult time understanding some of the basics, even with all the online tutorials. It looks like I missed the basic workshop. Any chance I could meet up with someone who could help me get started?

I just bought an Arduino Leonardo and an IOIO board, so I would come if possible.

Without a date and location it's rather difficult to confirm but regardless I'm registering my interest.

Hi Travis, any idea if wee decided any date and time? I saw that yesterday John - the group owner dropped an email and I responded too him. Never heard anything from him yet.

I am proposing a 3-hour hands-on introduction to the Arduino micro-controller and beginning electronics and electronic components. This is going to be Similar workshop that Michael Belanger conducted in LA arduino group.

    You will learn:

Arduino Microcontroller basics (based on Arduino Uno)
    The waterfall model of electricity
Units of electrical measurement and Ohms Law
    Interfacing digital inputs and output
    Interfacing analog inputs
Writing clear and concise C code
Creating custom functions for more powerful code
Working with electronic components such as resistors, LEDs, potentiometers, light dependent resistors, and more.

I would like to know how many people are interested, so I can decide date and time accordingly. Please let me know if anybody is interested to join me in arranging this event, so I can get an idea of number of organizers as well. This is going to be very basic workshop with minimal fee + separate board charges(if you don't have one)

    Thanks,
    ~puru

I will be very happy to host this at one of our weekly Sunday morning meetup at Ansir under the AI for Robotics meetup group. Diane myself and I am sure a few others in the group would be very interested to join as student and/or helper .

Hi Diane, as Travis said, they might not be happy with this idea. However, I liked Alain's idea. We should synch up on that.

  • Jim K

I agree with Diane that there is no need to have this associated with MakerPlace. You can do it on your own, anywhere.

Hi Alain, to add to that - we have set up a hardware workshop in the building opposite Ansir above the bakery. We are hosting regular workshops and are set up with ample electronics gear and space.

    • Puru

      @Alain - I would be interested.

    Hi;
    Thanks for the meet-up info.
Currently designing a Brewery Automation System, that uses the arduino to monitor sensors / control pumps and valves. Anyone interested in learning how to brew beer ( all grain process ) let me know.

Hi haven...thanks for share. I don't drink but I would be interested to know that how you incorporated Arduino platform in your project.

Is this a meetup? Is there an agenda? More info please.

    July 26, 2013

    • Katie R.

It's not a planned meetup as far as I can tell. I think it may be an artifact of something I posted last year. I'm opening up the new lab space to the Arduino group if they need a spot.

    • Jason

Yes, but I don't usually respond to meetup posts during work hours. I am interested in the class you're proposing Puru and know of at least one other person depending on the day. Where were you thinking of holding this class?

      June 3, 2013

    • Jason

At Makerplace obviously, sorry. Date & time?

      June 3, 2013

HI - I am interested in conducting Arduino Uno Introduction class. Please let me know how to go about this. I am really excited to do this.

Hey! I've been a member for a few months, and it's a fantastic place - not only because of the electronics shop and all the other shops, but also because you're bound to run into someone who can help with advice on your problem!

You can come in for a tour any day, i work as an intern. If you are a member we should talk.

  • Andrew L.

Hey, I didn't see any Arduino-specific classes on their site. Apparently anyone can walk into the place 7 days a week. I'll stop in sometime soon but it would help if I knew that some like-minded people were there.

Heard of it sounds awesome. That's all

They do tours, too, right? What about a group tour and, I dunno, dinner or something afterwards?

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
