Cuyamca Peak Reload

Well, skiing Cuyamaca today was quite an interesting experience, and surprisingly fun.  I was able to ski from summit to parking lot, more details to come.  Tomorrow, the group has voted to try to ski this rarity again, via the Lookout Fire Road from Paso Picacho campground.  SD County got more of the moisture from these storms than most of socal, so we might as well enjoy our own backyard and save our gas for bigger days.

Here is possibly the most boring POV video of all time, but it shows the enjoyable run down the road I had last Saturday: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=...

Bummed I can't go. That snow was soooo dry on Wed that it didn't even smash down, just moved out of the way. Lots of rocks and sticks, a couple of fallen trees. Hopefully the snow that just fell is wetter cuz as it was, doing turns would be close to impossible. Coverage was pretty lame as far as we went (almost South Fork Meadow), can't imagine it gets much much better for turns....and very loose. I am amazed at how dry and faceted the flakes are.
Have fun, be safe. DON'T wear trail shoes!

Good NOAA snow likes as it even has Christmas Tree Hill Records Query. Just pull a box with mouse and zoom and click for Query Info. Have a good day out hope to make it next time.

    I'd love to join you!
Looking for older skis to borrow (suitable for thin snow) and a car ride. Thanks!

The 4 that have RSVP'ed so far are on skis, but everyone is welcome. You guys might have to set your own pace in places. Keep in mind the conditions are basically going to be crap (super thin) on the approach, and possibly everywhere. There is at least a 2-3 mile hike to get to anything ride-able, possibly longer.

Is everyone going to be on skis? I'm interested in going and would be on a splitboard, but my buddy would be on shoes/board.

Excellent, thanks for that. Sounds like its going to be thin at least until Horse Meadows. Maybe it will get better up near Charlton.

Deb over at San G. Message board said they had a nice skin trip up on the 14th. Put here notes on our message board. Plus there was a post over there of shots by Dry Lake and it looked like you could get a few turns.
