April Meetup: RStudio in Town to Discuss ggvis and Shiny

  • Apr 30, 2014 · 6:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Thanks to Andrea and Derren for taking time out of their busy schedules to share their knowledge and experiences with us. Many thanks to the San Diego Super Computer Center for allowing us to host our group at such a great location. Next month the RStudio team will be in SD for a few events, one of them being our meetup.

Garrett Grolemund will be giving a tour of the Shiny Development Center website and will demonstrate what users can expect from Hadley Wickham's new ggvis package (dynamic, interactive graphics!). He'll also talk about the latest improvements to R Markdown.

Garrett Grolemund is an R Instructor and statistician who has used R to analyze data for over 10 years. He created and maintains the popular lubridate package and is the author of Data Science with R, an upcoming book by O'Reilly Media.

Directions and Parking:

It's best to park at the Hopkins Parking structure, adjacent to SDSC. Park in white spaces marked V, a permit is required ($1 / 45min)

We'll be meeting at SDSC's Auditorium located on the ground level of the east entry right on Hopkins Drive.

****4/10/14 Update****

There will also be a day time event of a different topic:

Introduction to Shiny

Date:  April 30

Time:  1:00PM - 4:00PM

Gallery 17 Event Center and Plaza

2710 Historic Decatur Road

San Diego, CA 92106

Registration link:

A three hour Introduction to Shiny workshop taught by Garrett Grolemund. Students will start at the very beginning, e.g. how to make an app, and then work their way through laying out an app, adding widgets, controlling reactivity, modularizing an app, debugging, and then deploying. I'll focus on the R side of Shiny, so no javascript or HTML will be necessary.

See you all next month!

I had a last minute change of plans and couldn't make it. Are the presentations available?

Although we're started to kick off at 6:30, we'll have to do both setup and teardown of the auditorium ourselves. If anyone wants to help set up chairs, feel free to show up as early as 6 PM!

Just a reminder: there are still seats available for the day time event.

For folks going to both: Any interest in beer or dinner between events?
