Title: An introduction to Bioconductor and a Case Study of its Use--Microarray Data Analysis

Speaker: Daniel Pick

The San Diego R Users Group will be meeting on Thursday, September 23, from 6:30-8:30 PM at Sequenom. (RSVP details below)

Bioconductor is a peer-reviewed and maintained open-source software collection of R packages for analyzing genomic data. The Bioconductor project is several years old now, and contains packages for doing many different kinds of analyses. In this talk I will introduce the core concepts of Bioconductor, present the Bioconductor website, provide an overview of the fundamental Bioconductor packages, and illustrate their use in doing microarray data analysis. We will also look at some R packages for microarray data outside of Bioconductor, and discuss the advantages of the Bioconductor approach.

Speaker Bio: Daniel Pick is an R instructor at UCSD extension, an experienced professional technical consultant and scientific software developer, and a graduate student in computational science at San Diego State University. He has worked or consulted for Syrrx, Biogen-Idec, and many others and has taught a wide range of math courses, from statistics to scientific computing.
