  • Let's try for another board or two in May.

A few people mentioned that they might be able to host this one; please make a note in the comments if you are interested/able to host, and also whether you can accommodate 1 or 2 boards so we can shoot for the right number of RSVPs.

    Looking forward to it!

I wonder if it might be a good idea to close this meetup group and instead have the games be events in another larger meetup group, like the San Diego North County Board Games group. It might make it easier to get more exposure and get more players.

I like the idea of recruiting through other groups, but I also think having a group dedicated to Diplomacy is a good idea. For the last meetup I posted it on SDNC boardgamers and did not get any takes, even though we had 15 people from this group show up. Nonetheless, next time I'll post it at both places and see if we can't get some additional recruits.

Well, as I run both SDNC games and SD boardgames, I can say that both are intended for less serious gamers, even though serious gamers do join. It's fine to advertise any gaming events in either group, but I think having this be a separate group is a good idea. I would suggest thinking about expanding it to more than just Dip though, as there may be more people interested in other serious and involved games, like Adv. Civ. or 1830, etc.

    We can host next week.

Any luck finding a 7th anyone? I haven't heard anything back from contacts. Let's try to make a decision on whether to reschedule or not by later today. I think the timing for this game may not be the greatest for getting a good turnout given all that's been going on in SD this week.

We have been evacuated on Tuesday, but it was purely precautionary and we are ready and would be glad to host tomorrow's game, however we'd rather postpone if there are not enough players.

Sorry folks tied up tomorrow hopefully next time!

If we can't get a 7th player what do people want to do? Play one short? Reschedule? Let's try to make a call by late Friday or early Saturday.

I don't know if rescheduling is going to change much. Let's all hunt for an additional player.

Keep us posted, Chris. I am also searching.

Looking forward to the game on Sunday! I'll bring a board and some conference maps in case they are needed. Folks who are playing just for the second or so game, I encourage you to check out the files I posted (http://www.meetup.com/San-Diego-Diplomacy-Players/files/). One is a 2 page rules summary and the other goes over the most common mistakes of new players.

I have never played Diplomacy but am willing to give it a try.

Mairin, can you make the game on May 18? Please RSVP if you'd like to come and we can teach you the rules then. Bear in mind that it can be a rather long game, 4-6 hours is typical.

Unfortunately, I will not be able to make the 18 May date. I hope to make the next one. Thanks.

Since Thomas ( cplato ) can host two boards, perhaps it would be better to make him be the host for the next game ?

    • Adam S.

Only 4 players so far - let's gauge interest and decide later in the week. I'll be happy enough if we have a full 7 for one board, but if there are enough people who want to play to fill 2 we can adjust.

I can host two board game. We have two different dining rooms, plus outside if a nice day.

Great! Michael, I've made you the event host so you can edit details and add your address when it gets closer.
