3rd Space Monthly Jam Session

Monthly Jam Session at 3rd Space

House Band:

Jason Shattil (keys)
Duncan Moore (drums)
Ben Wanicur (bass)

3rd Space is a really cool co-working space / club for the creative. The main room on the inside is similar to an underground loft / art gallery. It's a really cool venue!

$5 Cover goes to support the house band!

We are trying to make this happen once a month (first Tuesday of each month). We are also looking for someone to sell food / drinks (non-alcoholic) at the event. There is even a grill there, so if you are grill-inclined, you could use it! Contact Ben if you are interested.

Great jam and very inviting for novice players. I especially appreciate the tolerance by the advanced players since bringing a violin to a jazz jam has gotten me "the look" before. It was a pleasure to listen to and play with such a talented bunch. Thanks Ben for the great job you did

Well said, Ben. I was one of the 6 or 7 drummers and arrived late to boot. We could've had a basketball team with subs! I couldn't stay to play, but enjoyed it nevertheless. Hope to see you next time.

Thanks to everyone who came out! Also thanks for being so patient. We had a lot of musicians sitting-in. We might try an earlier start time, but we will probably have to keep it to 3 hours or so. Sometimes at jam sessions you might not get a chance to sit in. For instance, there were about 6 or 7 drummers that showed up last night. I personally go to jam sessions just to hang out and have fun. Sitting-in is not the most important thing to me. I think that if you focus on sitting-in, you might be disappointed. Another thing to keep in mind is that sometimes you need time to get to know the house band. Once people recognize you it will be easier to sit-in. When I go to a new jam session I expect NOT to sit-in. If I get called up, then it is a nice surprise, but I definitely do not EXPECT that to happen.

I would have liked to have had this start an earlier time. Some of the members had to leave before they had a chance to play.

Good musicians all, and tolerant of those not at their level of skill.

Ben, Of course it should be well attended. You on bass and Duncan on drums. I don't know Jason, but I suspect he is in the same stratosphere of quality.

Thank you Yasha. Jason is a recent Philadelphia transplant. I'm sure you'll dig his playing!

Quick Public Service Announcement: It looks like we may have a lot of musicians coming to this jam. If that is the case, please be patient and remember Jam Sessions are just as much about listening / hanging-out/ networking, etc... as they are about playing.

I have found it helpful to have a sign up list with the chosen song / songs and instrument. Everyone that has signed in so far has been to a open mike Jam before.

We usually have a sign up list. As for choosing a song, I cannot make any promises.

There is a $5 cover for the Jam. 3rd Space is a not a club or bar, so the $5 cover goes towards paying the house band. Otherwise, we would not be able to put on this event. I think once people check out 3rd Space, they will be happy to pay the cover. If you are coming out for the music, it's a much better venue than a noisy bar.

This is the first I have seen of a $5.00 cover charge. As per the
flyer that you uploaded. Is this Correct? If so Please let the members Know.

No suggested playlist. I suggest anyone who is not confident about their repertoire bring a fake book.

Will there be any kind of suggested playlist?
