Almost Full Moon Night Paddle (No rentals available)

Come out and paddle under a full moon (well, almost full, 91% full) Friday evening on July 19th. We will try and be on the water by 7:45 PM, so try and arrive by 7:30 PM, so we can launch before sunset which is at 7:55 PM.

There are no rental boats or gear available so you will need to supply your own kayak and gear to attend.

We will meet on the beach of Tidelands Park located in Coronado and paddle into Glorietta Bay toward the Hotel Del Coronado and then back out of the bay and go out aways under the Coronado Bridge and then back to Tidelands Park. The paddle should last a couple of hours or so and probably be around 4-5 miles in distance.

It should be a fairly easy paddle and should be good for most all kayaks, canoes and paddler levels.

***You will also need to bring a flashlight or handlamp for after dark paddling per Coast Guard regulations.

I really liked last night's paddle! It was fun to paddle around Glorietta Bay at night. Then under the Coronado Bridge. Then the second part crossing the SD Bay at night seeing the Comicon stuff, the cannons, listening to a little En Vouge, fireworks.

Then the crossing back over, there was one point where we were all traveling as a pod, there was some big wake hitting us and we were cruising! FUN!

Is a spray skirt recommended for a recreational kayak in the bay?

    July 15, 2013

    • Jim C.

      Exactly :)

There was a company that had a line of spray skirts called "The Kilt." I had one once.

This sounds like fun I haven't paddled at nite in quite awhile . Will I need more than my headlamp?

    July 15, 2013

    • Greg S.

Hi Steve, no, just a handlamp or handheld flashlight. They don't have to be on constantly. It is used just in case a boat is headed your way and you need to signal it so it can see you and then avoid a collision.
